Thread regarding Sears layoffs

There is nothing left to cut, and they keep asking asking for more

The whole simple store process is a joke, more like disaster.. it's like shopping at big lots nothing is in order now. Don't know how we can cut more and stay open.. I was told to cut 200 a day on top of the 1500 already cut this week.. and they are set on it. Normally I just ignore the budget until the DM whines and moans but they are very serious about saving every last penny.. 1500 dollars in guaranteed savings, you kidding me!! Why not have and actual ad for customers I'm sure we could more than make up for it if we had people to help customers.. this company has become miserable to work for. Used to be a great company. The last 2 years have been the worst I've ever seen.

I am having the same issues, @O24ICk2-hsa. Every day it's something new, and I have nothing left to cut. We are running on skeleton crew as it is.

tft--every cut, every new idea, every crazy idea, every process or cut starts at Kmart. Kmart is like the test tube of SHC. If it doesnt work on the lower class or the the people who are looking for a bargain then it will not work on the middle-class. Pay attention more to the Kmart side (which will close first) and you will see the future of the Sears side.

As usual the cuts will come suddenly. You may have 20 hours on Saturday for the next week and then the call comes to cut more and by Monday you will have 5 hours. this is becoming the norm at SHC from the store level to corporate

I am a former SHC/Kmart employee who was laid off in 2014 that now works at a Big Lots store.

Yes about 50-60% of what the store carries are non core items.

20% of the stuff that can be replenished/ordered call them NVO/Never Outs aka Core Items.

20% is Furniture which is its own department and all of that stuff is auto shipped.

We still do have Planograns/Price Changes in the stores.

The best way to describe BigLots is like a hybrid of a Sears/Kmart without the pharmacy.

@tft I think they are cutting more the K-marts than Sears. I havent seen any major cuts their was another post where the OP said that K-mart cut their hours been checking my schedule, but will know pretty sure by tonight or hear it at work today if they have cut hours.

@ilq However as he said Sears is also getting the cuts. This past 2 years have been just plain horrendous. We are getting to the bone they basically cut the bottom people as much as they can they cut 2 leads just recently one sorta lazy one and the other a huge tool you tell her to fetch and she go (it was sad seeing her do it). All that is left to cut I know is one of the managers which its coming soon or later.

It is indeed sad when the higher ups ask for more cuts yet their is really nothing else to cut makes the store look like crap...
