Thread regarding Advance Auto Parts Inc. layoffs

Is this true? Severance agreements say you can't work in the parts industry for a year???

I heard the severance agreements everyone had to sign to get paid state that people who are laid off can't work for any other parts retailer or vendor for a year or they will get sued by the company. ANd they also can't hire anyone who ever worked at Advance. How are they supposed to make a living after the severance runs out????

My severance agreement didn't have a no compete clause but it did say I couldn't hire anyone from advance for I think 6 months after leaving. Which is fine by me because I'm not in the same industry or area after leaving. Your pay grade and years of service depended on how many weeks of severance you'd receive.

I heard the non-compete lasts for 12 months, and they can be sued if they EVER say anything negative about the company.

What did people receive as severance pay? I was told it was 2 weeks pay.

Totally disagree - it's a binding contract. if you sign it you are agreeing to the terms of a contract. People need to read it and understand what you are being given based on the conditions you must conform to. My severance (I wasn't part of this round but I left in March) did not restrict me from any type of work, nor did it keep me from hiring any of my employees. Now I was a corporate based employee - so the Field Leadership may have different agreements.

They can not prevent you from earning a living. That said they can restrict you employment during the period you actually drawing severance. This is just further evidence the former head of HR (grannypanties) who now heads legal has no conscience. Grannypanties has ruined the legacy of the founding family.
