Wrong people are getting rewarded with latest Honeywell RIFs

With the exception of the last three RIFs, in all other RIFs over the past 30 years they have cut people, with total disregard for departmental work-load, under-staffing, or OT, as they use to select a target number, or percentage, and instruct the managers to select the equivalent percentage from their dept. They first ask for volunteers, and if they didn't get enough, they then make the number up with involuntary. Most often, almost all volunteers gets accepted, regardless of workload or importance of the individual.

The picture is much different now, as the company's deteriorating attitude towards it's employees has opened the floodgate of volunteers, and resignations, forcing the company to be more selective. Unfortunately, that has resulted in the least productive/talented employees, mostly involuntary, getting rewarded with a severance package, and the most productive/talented ones punished with rejection, and increased work-load to boot, driving many to leave on their own.

I have noticed this trend as well, @O43lFQe-1jkl. The good ones are being worked to the bone until they simply can't take it anymore, and they leave on their own.

Real issue is that the old business is not the new business. There are products we won't make any more when the sales stop. Volvo isn't making gasoline only engines ....tough luck if you aren't on the hybrid line. I'm retraining and planning my departure. Meanwhile Im spending all the time I can onsite solving customer problems and building relationships that will last beyond honeywell.

The bean counters are in control. The goals they work to are how to put the most cash in their pockets. The days of Phx Engines being an engine manufacturer 1st are long gone, today leadership views the divisions as piggybanks and constantly looking to what can be done to extract cash. If You are lucky to have a good boss and like what you do, great.

1ccn asks who gives 100%. I did. Even my last couple years at 60+YO and still giving the company 50+ hours every week and sometimes even working from home on Sundays just so my Monday was doable. Asked my manager for help several times an always got the same yes I'm working on getting us some additional help/manpower. MUHAHA! What a crock of you know what that was. Last review I was put into the elbow. So within 2 months of that and at 62 YO and 39+ years I said I don't need that BS and I retired. SO HAPPY I made that decision.

Who gives 100%? Most people I know are actively or semi actively looking for other jobs or waiting to retire. They are past the point of giving a sh--. You can't give 100% when everyday after work you look for jobs so you can get out. Most people nowdays give 10% or less because they see they have no future and giving 100% makes 0 difference for you. You will get let go the same as the 10%ers.

1oga - I understand your position and don't disagree with you completely, but I think that the culture that has been created by HON leadership is toxic and they need to at least consider and value employees as a "human resource." Every employee has to take ownership of their roles and responsibility and earn the paycheck that you refer to in you post, but if leadership wants the employees to think of their job as only a paycheck they will continue to destroy the morale of the business.

I read a post recently on an email that Elon Musk sent to his employees regarding employee safety and the company's commitment to their employees and I think that is a great example of how a leader can engage with his people and create a culture that builds loyalty from the employees. Maybe the HON leadership team could spend some time getting out of the ivory tower and in trenches with the employees to start learning about the challenges they face every day and earn their trust and respect.

Results do matter and it's time that the leadership of this company start investing in their human capital to continue to delivering results in the long term.

If you don't like what people post here, you don't have to visit this page! Your opinion on what is posted here is a waste of time. If the 'whiners' didn't care about their jobs and colleagues, they wouldn't post here. Being treated fairly and with respect is what is missing for the people that deliver. And the numner of people left to do so is dwindling each week. We keep hetting more execs and less workers. If we worker bees can see that, shouldn't all the overpaid ego-maniacs with their fancy metrics and big business smarts see that too?

To -agr posting, I did my job 100% and still got screwed because of the good ol' boy system. So I left on my own over a year ago and love my new job. Call it whining, hating, being sore, whatever, the culture at Honeywell s---s and if you want to stay, fine by me, enjoy the increased workload!

I don't get the complaining about this, HON culture is well defined, and anyone paying attention understands numbers matter, and always will. They will make numbers, that is what leadership is in place to do. If you happen to work for a leader who likes to have fun in the process, great, if not, they are paid to deliver results, period.

You might not like it, but if you work for HON, they pay you to do a job, and that is to deliver results. You have a choice, stay or go, but if you stay give 100% as I'm sure your paycheck is correct every two weeks.
