Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Can we stop alienating customers?

Another staff cut? I don't believe that they can't see how bad it is, they literally loose a dollar to save a dime. And I am convinced that someone there up is hurting Macy's on purpose. All these severe cuts of great employees, ridiculous new My Client (so NOT helpful, fire the one who made it!), a million questions asked on the pin pad and by associates (like, do you want to open a charge? sign up for Plenty? donate here, here and here?) just makes the process harder and longer and pisses the customers in the very, very understaffed stores, those customers now will leave with making no purchase. Where is the service and conveniense? They've gotta be complete idiots if they don't see it there. Well, the new layoff will just be like making another hole in a sinking ship - who knows, maybe some miracle will happen and that will save us from going down, huh?

This is what has been getting more and more on my nerves. by the time I am done with a customer, I can see they have no intention of ever coming back. First they have to wait because the staff is spread thin, mildly put, and then when they just want to pay and move on, they have to go through the whole "want this, how about this" procedure.

You all remind me of my Sears store. We alienate customers the same way.

Macy's still has some of it's reputation left though so people feel a little privileged to shop there and customers may put up with more because of this. Sears doesn't have that, at least not in softlines.

Both companies need to realize that punishing associates for accepting returns backfires. Associates get stressed and lots of them take it out on the customer. A customer that feel hostility while making a return is less likely to come back. Because you're messing with THEIR money and no one needs that. Ease of return was one of the things that distinguished department stores from junk stores.

I know, piss the customers that do come in off. Rather its no staff, No stock, bad stock. or extremely hot stores.

Want to save money. Stop printing 1000's of signs three times a week to toss them in the trash. Stop sending useless media in the mail (tired men's event and be fit to start)

And stop watering down our big events. Too many VIP and events that run 25 and 30 % too often. We will be on sale @ 25% and pre sale for 30 at the same time. The customers look at us like we are crazy. Not to mention the tired never ending 4 day one day sale with the same tired product over and over
