Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

60/10 packages

GE Power in Greenville, SC has started offering 60/10 packages today. Of course this is a precursor to what is coming soon. If they don't get the numbers down, then they might go lower to 55/25.

Lay offs are coming this year. Be prepared.

It is not layoffs. It's retirement packages. 60/10 meand 60 years of age and 10 years of work in that facility.

Early retirement packages are acceptable forms of age discrimination because everybody ends up happy.

Numbers didn't get close with the 60/10 package offered last week. Brace yourself for more cuts.

If you can leave with a decent package in hand GO!

Not like it is going to get any better.

Second tier employees..right

Maybe folks should be ranked by performance...

With management changing every two years there is no culture or legacy.

So all you hard work is a wasted effort.

@O8O2caL-7viz ---- I agree with you that GE tries very hard to flee unions and for good cause. A Union will never be established in Greenville because the area is very anti-union. Unions are parasitic in nature and I am against groups like that. Parasitic..... Very much like GE Leadership. GE leadership couldn't handle the parasitic competition.

You'd have to be a moron to think talking about a union is good. You do realize Schenectady had a union and they moved production to Greenville

A fat lot of good the Union did in Schenectady. The Union "leaders" just stood by and watched while GE eliminated our jobs. They kept right on collecting our dues, though.

Unfortunately talking with a Union is probably a good thing at this point. GE Leadership has made it obvious they do not give a crap about the hourly or salaried employees. MAU numbers will continue to increase replacing GE employees. At least the Union strikes fear in the leaders.

Some second tier workers are talking with the union and will be trying to gain support in the near future at GE Greenville.

There were definitely Greenville employees with 20-40 years that were "impacted by the reduction in force". Seniority does protect union labor, but otherwise it doesn't help someone who does little more than just show up.

20 to 25 % reduction is higher than I've been hearing. I've been hearing 7% reduction. Regardless, reductions in force are coming. We all agree to that.

Nobody wins. GE is lowering future employee standard of living. That's a loss for workers the country and eventually GE itself. When the economy is stagnant there is less demand for energy.

Where does the Mau (contractor employees) factor in to the total number

They will probably go lower with the packages such as 59/12 and so on before they lay anybody off, Rumor is they want a 20-25% reduction in workforce, I'm not sure how many hourly employees are at the campus but no doubt a 20-25% reduction is a lot of people

Layoffs WILL happen this summer if the 60/10 doesn't get numbers low enough and I don't expect the numbers will be low enough. How many turbines are on the the schedule for next year? Last I heard there were only 4 + units confirmed and 30 + units on the schedule. Even if all 30 were confirmed, that's not enough to sustain the current workforce. THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL !! Maybe they will start with the endless number of leaders that got us in this mess. But they never do, we are the ones that pay the price.

The lower pay tier will win. GE can't get rid of the old-timers fast enough.

When GE leadership decided to implement the two tier pay structure they predicted the resentment that would occur between the two groups. However, in their mind, they calculated the conflicts would be insignificant in comparison with their long term financial goals of lower cost labor. What they didn't consider was the high cost of employee turnover and the cost of constant training. They didn't consider the high cost of reduced quality. Now that bean counters and sourcing leaders are running manufacturing plants, the lower paid tier is becoming more attractive. They only look at measurable numbers and are unable to see the reality of their decisions. The problem is with leadership. Not the two tiered groups that are simply trying to provide income for their families.

Please turn down the heat. There are plenty of us working hard. Old timers, new hires, even executives (though it pains me to say it). When the Company can get us to fight with each other, they gain the upper hand. It makes it easier for leadership to justify removing labor.

IMHO the value of this site is two-fold. It teaches us how to survive as the Company downsizes, and it gives a chance for enlightened shareholders, board members, and even some outside investors to gain a window into our world and use the insight to turn this company around.

To the prick that talks about 2nd tier employees ,it's the old timers that will openly tell you they have been there 20 years' all I have do is show up". Let's start with them. Us new guys are constantly working more then we should have to because you have "seniority" you don't have to do your job. THAt is why this company is failing

GE engineer here. First round was engineers. Second round was older GE upper tier manufacturing employees. If they get those numbers, then they'll soon do a seniority type layoff.
