Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Start looking for a new job if you are not licensed

Prior to working at humana i worked for Medicare and a few hospitals... when i first started working here i couldn't understand why non licensed people were allowed to give medical advice (I'm not licensed and every company i worked for was very strict about what i could and couldn't do or say esp medicare)...i just figured Humana had found a loop hole around the issue...i think that it has finally caught up with them and they were trying to get out of paying all the extra money they are going to have to pay nurses and social workers...i seriously feel this is why they are doing the layoffs in stages... giving them time to hire people to replace the others... my advice to everyone is to move on now if you're not licensed (i know I'm looking) it's easier and less stressful looking for a job while you currently have one...ijs

Copied this from @O1rkN6y-6gsc, thought more people should see it. I am already following this advice and looking elsewhere for a job.

Like the original poster, I used to work in a health care facility. While working there, I always had to be EXTREMELY careful about what I could or could not say due to my not being a licensed medical professional. I am now a PHC. I still have no licensure or any social work background (my undergraduate degree is in something completely different). I recently had my 1:1 with my coach and because of the concerns so many have about licensure/certification, I flat out asked if she anticipates whether or not everyone doing telephonic outreach/care management/health coaching would be required to have some sort of certification or licensure within the near future. The quick response I received was "yes". I was told to expect a requirement of at least a care management certification as a PHC and if I do not qualify for it, I need to consider my options whether in or out of Humana. I then asked when she expects this to happen, and I was told she doesn't know for sure but suspects it will be within 6 months to a year. Are there any other PHC's who have been told something similar by their coach? I ask because my coach tends to get a little...um..."confused" when pressed for details. I know there is a certification for Health Coaching and I am wondering if they will be willing to accept that. Any thoughts?

Do they need an LSW or an LCSW?

I see it coming they are replacing all MSw open positions with RN and they just made up a team that will keep track of licensures. They are always inquiring about who has license. The problem is they can't keep RN.

This is a tough post to argue with. I've got nothing.
