Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel has applied for 12K+ H1Bs labor certification from 2014 to 2016 while laying off 11k+, what is wrong with this picture?

Here is the link to H1Bs visas and green cards application from Intel

Only it’s not a fairy tale is it? It’s quite well documented.

If it wasn’t the case I’m sure intel would publish the layoff statistics in the same way they take pride in their diversity statistics.

Until Americans wake up, & demand that corporations serve them first, the abuse will continue. The stock of this country is dedicated, intelligent, & not vocal. We blame ourselves first, before others. An American corporation exists because of the society which founded it. Its main purpose is to serve this country. If it has branches elsewhere, then it could hire locally. Small numbers of highly-talented foreigners should be welcomed, per intent of H1B. But, the elites have been allowed to look after their short-term interest for too long, & have no real allegiance to this nation. The lame excuse that Americans do not go into STEM is just that. When we see that what used to be a profession, has become a commodity, and when we are burdened with high educational costs --while folks in those other countries have virtually free education-- is there any wonder why the self-fulfilling prophesy lives on?

i'm sure its pretty similar across most international companies. Intel has clearly in the last ACT gone after the more expensive (read, older) members of the workforce. It has done this, I imagine, naively thinking that will address its operating margin issues. In fact what it has done has removed most of the experience and expertise that was needed to compete in core markets.

Its all well and good having a younger workforce.. It suits Google seemingly very well, but in Intel's case perhaps, just perhaps they went a little too far, too soon.

Only time will tell really. Certainly, looking at the financials and market share today would suggest it hasnt shown immediate results.

Wake up employees! Intel has little honor or respect for employees. Doesn't matter the derogatory label used over and over on this board. If you are OWG, curry eater, mexican, tr----, female, VP, middle manager, female, H1B, .... Eventually discarded and replaced at drop of a hat by the tops to give the apearance they are doing something to right the ship and deflect attention from failed strategies.

Quit labeling and bashing each other. Think about the the past 4 years and decide if you are better off under the current administration. I doubt the dude in the next cube over with whatever label you stick on him is at fault.

@O930mIk-dal - Completely true and an excellent analysis - although I'm not sure there was an actual criminal statute that was broken. Regardless - the civil penalties from the settlement were a slap on the wrist and in my opinion were the catalyst for the ACT layoffs and subsequent restructuring. The H1B refresh of laid-off workers and moving of engineering activities to India and other sites is a direct consequence of that lawsuit.

Same post over and over again. You guys need to just form a support group through meetup or something. That way you can b--ch and moan with each other and not feel all alone in the world.

The EEOC and other agencies sit idle while Intel demonstrably fired older people while continuing a hiring binge with young college graduates while also abusing the Hi1b visa program. To this day, Intel continues a rapid and simultaneous hiring and firing cycle for similar skills. While this has happened on and off in the past, the level of blatant disregard for employees, ethical norms, and legal requirements has never been in my view nearly this high.

I am no fan of unions, but when basic protections around labor law are not being enforced as companies like Intel incrementally test the waters on how far they can push things, then how else do employees rebalance the power between the C suite and themselves?

You could say well if you don't like Intel go elsewhere, but even that was unmasked a few years ago when Intel unethically and illegal colluded with 20 other technology companies to discourage cross-hiring. After getting caught, the fine was so minimal they still came out ahead, and no criminal charges were brought, despite evidence of intentional wrongdoing.
