Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CVX 101 students: Here is an assignment for you

Look up CVX on Yahoo Finance. Display the chart for the lat 6 months. Plot a trend line. Think now where CVX could be in another 6 months. That's right... further down the abyss. Best case scenario would be just a flat line. Put your money in something else, just not in CVX right now.

I would say that most are happy about the performance of CVX in the last quarter so that makes this thread basically moot, at least for now.

If you are such an individual and become upset when one of your asset classes does poorly, even when the rest of your portfolio is doing well, then you should not be managing your own money.

mpzi, Well since he is a billionaire, and you are not, that pretty much explains it and your frustration.

More BS quips from William J. Bernstein, another of many charlatans trying to sell books on how to invest. Christ, if I had an angle on the market, do you think I'd be educating everyone how to profit? Hell no, I'd keep it a dark secret for me only and become a multi billionaire. Only fools buy that crap.

"There are two kinds of investors, be they large or small: those who don't know where the market is headed, and those who don't know that they don't know."

William J. Bernstein

There's quite a few of the second type posting on this site. - See below.

3dqk, I'm pretty sure the market-timing based comments of the previous wannabe investment advisor were quite off-the wall and bizarre. No embarrassment here at all, my investments have always done quite nicely, thanks. Also I'll post if and whenever I want, particularly when it gets under your thin pathetic snoflake skin, like it did - LMAO! I certainly hope that you do not take advise from people posting on the "layoffs site" for any company, particularly if it pertains to stock in the company that laid off the wannabe advisor - LOL!

3vjl, Why so upset? Did 2riv's statement about CVX's poor share price performance of late (2% price appreciation over the past year) hit a nerve? What is so "off-the wall bizarre, self-serving and biased" about the facts. I have CVX stock in my portfolio as well, but I'm sure as hell not going to defend nor deny it's recent performance.

2riv, It's obvious you know nothing about the market or investing. I suggest you keep your off-the-wall bizarre self-serving and biased investment comments to yourself or accept further embarrassment. I am doing quite well with all of mine and never fail to beat the indices although I do not expect to, in general as a rule.

@2cti, The CVX dividend is very good, but chasing $1.08 per quarter and (as of late) losing more than that in share price doesn't seem to be a sound investment strategy. So, I fail to understand when you say "I'm way ahead of when I bought in". I don't think you're convincing anyone here that you are doing very well at all.

Despite the pathetic glass is half empty take on it by the OP, CVX is one of my better performing dividend stocks, and always has been I am way ahead of when I bought in, and it continues to return excellent dividends, but maybe i'm just lucky. I always consider some luck in play with the market in any event. YMMV

Nobody is claiming to be a financial wizard here. The assertion of Chevron's stock price taking a slow downward track is factual. The commentator pointed you to Yahoo Finance as the information source. Take a gander if you have any doubts. It doesnt take a genius to figure the trend of oil stocks here, CVX in particular. It's a riskier place to invest your money right now. Reasonable assumption?

iet / dae, Keep bragging about your financial acumen, the great Dividend and the title of Dividend Aristocrat - but I think this topic has been hammered to death on another thread. Companies that pay out high dividends usually do so because they don't have anything better to do with their money and/or the boys calling the shots are clueless. As an investor, wouldn't you rather have the company use its money for high return capital projects instead of giving it back to shareholders (long-term share appreciation >> short-term dividends). And the fact that they have to borrow money to pay the dividend is ridiculous. Sorry that you have all your investments in CVX stock. Maybe that 4% dividend return will soften the beating that your portfolio is taking.

There are people that dedicate their entire career predicting the markets, and sadly despite all of their experience, they're wrong more often than not...

So I've decided to listen to some random dude on a layoff website who is obviously in the 'know' with his yahoo finance skills... I'm pretty sure he's out there making millions and only comes here to bless us with his market savvy..

iet, Yeah the dividend. Looking at 1 year returns, the Dow is up 17.5%, the S&P 500 is up 13.5% and CVX is up 2.1%. For 5 year returns, the Dow is up 67.6%, the S&P 500 is up 78.8% and CVX is up 18.0%. Even with the great Dividend, and investor would be better off putting their $$ somewhere else.

Chevron's demise or Chevron's success is entirely up to Chevron's Execs
