Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What happens when Intel runs out of new processes?

10nm is a nightmare. 7nm won't be much better. Even if TMG gets these up and going, there aren't a lot of generations left. So what then?

Next generation processors will need to actually have new innovations rather than process shifts and frequency tweaks.

NAND may have some legs left but won't be able to provide enough revenue/profit for the behemoth that is Inte

Seems like Intel is grasping for straws with IOT.

So what's left in the tank for Intel?

@OA2WGS2-1sne 👍

Right on and when they have to put -0nm cost and depreciation I the book, look out below.

But there is already a fifth generation planned for 14nm as 10nm ain't coming anytime soon, but the piper must be paid!

Last week's earnings come on the back of the third (or fourth?) 14nm product and the largest tech boom since 2000. It doesn't contradict anything, 10nm still remains a turd and Intel earnings will start suffering as soon as products start ramping up on that process. And 7nm will be even worse. Intel has entered a vicious cycle with the abandonment of tick-tock, and it will not be able to recover.

@1ppi - Nobody here, including, likely, yourself, would have really imagined that within the last two years, 10nm would STILL be late. We are all shocked. It's like watching a train-wreck, in slow motion - the fascination sustains itself on epic levels.

I'll stop the 10nm rag when Intel starts shipping in volume. Let me know when that happens.

@1nim - I know it's hard, but try to use your big boy words today. Just for one day.

Saying better than expected earnings doesn't equate to 10nm success. It's like saying next year's crops will do well because we had.a good harvest this year.

@OA2WGS2-1clu Clearly you have no clue how they switch costs on the balance sheet on new factories. Go ask someone in finance how it profits will look given the likely yield versus the promised fastest ever ramp, OUCH will do great for the stock!

Did 14nm meet the promised levels of yield promised by Sohail from five years ago, and why would you expect 10nm promises now which is even more FUBAR to be even close?

Moore' Law has already ended at intel.

You can intel idiots believe all the BS on Circuit from BK about 10nm and Mark and the rest of the LTD liars, but where the hell is 10nm, it has been coming for two years now and still nothing!

As a result of this failure Intel was stuck doing two more processors designs on 14nm, what a total failure. Forget 7nm or 5nm, the 10nm disaster will destroy LTD and TMG and likely take intel down with them.

Samsung and TSMC are already ramping their next node while intel presents empty power points.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@pzk - That's my first time posting "Those 'blowout earnings quarters' are a thing of the past, my friends."

There aren't any immediate (within 2 years) growth drivers, there is competition that will start to see volume in ~Q4, which will affect margin and revenue, and any rise in revenue will be accretive MobilEye after it closes, filling of channel for XMAS buys, and general seasonal Q4 quarter rise. The fundamentals are sound for the near term, but long term has serious holes.

Thus, thing of the past. First time used. Bookmark this page.

This is actually a good question. 7nm is 3+ years away. The story will have to change. We used to say about the Tick-Tock model; "It's all about the Tock". That is true now more than ever, and there hasn't fundamentally been any earth-shaking 'Tocks' for a loooooong time.

Those 'blowout earnings quarters' are a thing of the past, my friends.
