Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Prepare yourself

Study the market, study your competition and get to the point where you are at the top of your game. If you want to stay at Oracle, it will equip you to be in the best position possible to do so. If you are let go or want to leave, you will be ready to find and land another job. Your value and marketability will only increase by taking this path. You will learn what your competition is saying, where they are strong, where Oracle has weakness, where Oracle could position itself, etc. It is a win/win for you.

What I'm seeing is...

  1. Oracle's strength is in business applications, mission critical database and with customers who aren't fully ready for Cloud (e.g. on-prem "Cloud" approach). If you are aligned with those solutions and/or have customers who will be doing significant deals this year, staying could be a viable option for you.

  2. There are lots of competitors who are not only experiencing success, but are hiring. Reports are coming back that Oracle's compensation has fallen behind and that there is the potential to get a bump in base and a real shot at hitting or surpassing on variable compensation. However, the interview process can take time and, in some cases, can be pretty challenging. If you want out, do your homework, be prepared, target the places you'd want to work and go land yourself a step up.

  3. If you are in a position at Oracle that isn't good, but also doesn't directly align to an outside job that you'd like, consider the potential of an internal move to a title/role that will set you up for the future you'd like. People in some of the "desirable" titles/roles at Oracle are choosing to leave and as their spots open up, there could be an opportunity to take an internal transfer. Get your resume to say what you need it to in order to secure your future.

Best of luck regardless of which path you pursue!
