Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The word troll. Who they are and what it means.

So a looooooong time ago I think I was the first person to use the word troll to describe someone on this site. I'd never seen it before then suddenly everyone started using it.

An internet troll is someone who causes trouble to trigger a response from people. If you're someone who's from my generation you're probably very familiar with them because you'll find them pretty much anywhere on the internet.

So who's trolling this community? We all want to know but because of how being anonymous works it's pretty much impossible. Since the very beginning I believed the true trolls in this community have been people who have been laid off already. Think about it. Which is more likely? The higher ups in corporate taking time out of their day to come troll people who they already have at their mercy? Or could it be people who have been laid off coming here to vent their frustrations and trying to get back at the company who did them wrong?

It kinda makes sense too. As time progresses more and more people who get laid off will know of this site.

FYI, I'm not corporate. I've been here long enough to know that there's always that tin foil conspiracy theorists that thinks any post that isn't a rant is Eddie or someone else higher up. I can assure you that I'm not.

O.K., it's me ... Al Gore. You got me.

While I'm disappointed that most still don't believe that I invented the internet, and that I truly do have an elongated popsicle stick up my a _ _ which has made me more "cranky" than most, I insist on taking the credit for nearly all of the negative posts on this board.

After all, I couldn't be President. Then, I couldn't pass the Sears assessment for employment in soft lines! So .....I'll continue to "eye roll" and post unkind comments on this board ! You meanies !

@OAwWJxT-gqz Thanks. I had hoped everyone here could read, but I guess not eye roll.

I basically made this post because I see corporate troll being thrown around everytime someone posts from a perspective that isn't a rant trash talking sears. but I really don't think all this trouble is caused by people from corporate. It's most likely caused by people who either have nothing to do with sears and are just looking for some fun, or people who are mad about being laid off. It just seems a lot more reasonable to me.

I'm not sure if everyone actually thinks corporate is out to get you. I'm sure everyone who isn't in on whatever scheme that's going on is holding their breath and waiting too.

OP said 1st to use the word on this site. Not that he/she invented it.

I feel it's a combination of folks trolling. The bitter laid off or forced into retirement, some immature fools who have no connection with SHC, some bored fellows & yes, some corporate propagandists. Not Eddie, I hope although after his pebble stunts who knows. Some lower level employee working for that publicist who is always on pebble is more likely. Won't use his name but B. is the 1st initial of the last name.

@OP - Let me offer a different perspective on who the trolls are. It is unlikely to be those who have been laid off. The vast majority of associates are dutiful and toe the company line. Then comes the great betrayal, through no fault of their own they are laid off. Most are probably too busy putting their lives back together to even bother visiting this site, let alone take up trolling. Some, as a way to get back at a perceived injustice, may decided to divulge unflattering information about the company.

Years ago there were a few other retail boards. Postings there were not anonymous; you had to register and use a pseudonym. Some of the posters were called out as being corporate trolls. One time a poster confirmed that they indeed were a corporate troll at HQ. They decided to come clean out of spite because they had just been laid off. They posted that there was a group of people at HQ assigned to monitor the sites. Part of their job was to act as spin doctors, or as someone on this site termed them, "tone police." They also would try to ascertain who the leakers were. I've seen that occur on this site when posters are challenged to reveal their position, location and sources!

I can see what you're saying. But I see this as a community (or SAW it that way once) of people in the same boat. If I was laid off right now the last place I'd want to take out my frustrations is here. I'd rather see the kinds of helpful posts we used to see. I think it's possible that the reason we're seeing more troll-ish posts is because there's nothing major to report for now. Who knows...
