Mooresville-based Lowe’s is cutting more jobs.

The home-improvement retailer confirmed Thursday that it is laying off an undisclosed number of delivery workers nationwide as the company shifts to a third-party delivery service.

In an email to the Observer, the company said its decision is in response to “the growing demand for timely delivery,” including next-day delivery, in select markets. None of the affected stores are in Charlotte.

The affected stores have already been using a combination of both third-party and Lowe’s own delivery, the company said. The affected stores are also in markets where the increased demand for delivery exceeds Lowe’s current capacity.

“Unifying the delivery strategy in these markets will improve the customer experience,” the company said.

A spokeswoman declined to say how many delivery workers and which markets are affected nationwide. In North Carolina, two of the 115 stores are impacted, she said.

The latest layoff announcement follows a series of other recent cuts Lowe’s has made to cut costs and boost profitability.

Earlier this summer, laid off about 125 corporate tech workers, mostly at its Mooresville headquarters. Many of the affected information technology job functions are being sent to Bangalore, India, where Lowe’s employs approximately 1,000 corporate workers.

Lowe’s also eliminated 96 corporate tech jobs in October, then in January cut another 2,400 full-time jobs, mostly at the store level. In February, it followed with more than 500 corporate layoffs, including 430 in Mooresville and 70 support staffers in Wilkesboro.

Much husband is a lowes driver and being let go. Lowe's doesn't care about they're employees with a work schedule of 9 days straight working 10 to 12 hour days. They treat they're driver's like a price of sh--. Lowe's s---s. Lost me as a customer.

Why blame Lowe's? It all goes back to Obamacare, forcing companies to cut full-time staff (by converting them to part-time) and reducing staff to conserve profits (as required by Wall Street and the stock holders who expect huge dividends). More of the unseen (sweep it under the rug) impacts of a 1200 page law that was passed without knowing what was in it. That's the way it is, Aug. 3, 2017

This is lowe's leaderships fault. They never really planned for the future. They are still using the same computer software since before 2000. As for Obamacare, that was pushed for by business and the elite. Do you see senators or reps on Obamacare? Nope they have something way better we will never have. that's why Walmart has many of its employees buying insurance through the exchanges. Celebrities push Obamacare, they would never buy it for themselves. they shove their followers and minions on how great it is. Before Obama care I paid about $150 for a PPO with my choice of doctor and no charger for office visits. But now its $600 a month with $10 office visits. Yippee. Its better for everyone. only 4x more expensive.

The worst thing that happened to lowes is when we changed from an "employee owned" company. When I started people were proud and got profit sharing at the end of the year. sometimes a couple thousand per person. When it changed they said it was better because everyone would get into the 401k. Guess what that's the stockmarket. Hope you did it. I took my 18 years of stock and I'm living on dividends while I look for a new job. I took it out of lowes stock and bought other stocks. Stocks aren't bad, they are the equalizer that any person can buy. Most people are too lazy to find the stocks that will get them ahead. $5,000 in amazon when it went on the stock exchange is worth millions today. I don't have it, never did. But thankfully some people had the good fortune and bought it. If you want to get ahead you have to work hard and understand the world owes us nothing. My grandfather worked the fields and said he would never take a dime from the government. He felt that was failure, it was for people that were too lazy and not determined to get ahead. He went from being an immigrant that spoke no English to owning a couple apartment buildings.

It's your choice to stay working where you don't feel appreciated, to look to the government or to create your own future. That's what makes this world challenging to live in, But worth the ride. Good Luck to everyone. Buckle up, this ride is getting crazy.

The news is drama thats why. They just want the attention. Lowe's a crappy company like a lot of them out there. Seems to be most are like this now and Lowe's is only going that way recently. I don't care. I am done soon. This will be somebody else problem. Code 50 people. Get your butts up there and help while the rest of then employees ignore it..

That reporter is clueless as to what's really going on in the stores. They make it sound like all sunshine and how we're over capacity. What's really going on is they are cutting payroll and saving a few dollars an hour by hiring outside delivery people. The 3rd party employees are paid less and Lowe's will then have fewer people they have to pay benefits for.

Why doesn't the news media report the facts and not just the fluff?
