MH -- Annual Employee Survey -- A gauge for targeting the RIFs?

For the past few years, MH has been requiring that NA Sales employees must respond to the annual employee survey. It was mandatory and online. It was executed by a third party firm. The SVPs sent a couple of emails out about the importance of it. Again, they received a report about how many of the employees in their group completed the report. I remember the survey ask questions about "How many years have you been at Oracle?" "How would rate the trust worthiness of your manager?" etc. I now suspect they are using this information to gauge the morale of each group. I think they are using this information to target the groups for the RIFs.

Do you have any information about it? Can you help fill in the blanks?

I'm a former employee. While I was there the upper level manager changed and the new one put out a survey to see what issues existed. They got 25% response. I think the other guys knew something I didn't. Never fill our surveys.

Employee surveys are used for something. But honestly it is not for the benefit of the employees. Nothing has changed in a good way after the surveys clearly showed low Morale. I don't think upper management cares about the attitude and opinions of individuals they are about to layoff.

The only thing they might care about is something tied to either a cost or a potential revenue. If it were me doing the survey and all I cared about was not getting sued and keeping the cost of the layoff as low as possible.

I'd ask question like how likely are you to leave on your own accord? If we gave you enough time will you find a job elsewhere? How much is it gong to cost us to give you severance package? In short what is the cheapest way to get rid of you?

I really don't care if your happy at Oracle when I am trying to get rid of you. Quiet the opposite, Unhappy = more likely to leave. Hence the cuts to overtime, bonus and the removal of the car allowance. All that left is to dork with benefits... but that affects the whole company.

Upper management doesnt care what mid management thinks. Mid management is about to be laid off.

They way to not get laid off is to give a scathing review and say you are actively interviewing. Your name will be removed from the list to layoff because they don't want to pay severance.

If you want the package give a glowing review and say you are not leaving.

Don't be fooled into believing that this is an innocent, anonymous survey b/c management wants to know what people think; they don't. They want to better figure out whom to fire. Suggestion: give middle of the road answers so you don't stand out at either end.

Bs, survey is not for RIF ! There is no "conspiracy" out there, folks are doing business , not trying to be evil or play games.

Also, the automatic taps in the bathrooms sense your badge so they can tell how long everyone washes their hands. Oddly enough, shorter is better.

If you think the survey is anonymous when you have to log in through the VPN and they can tell if you completed it or not. Its not anonymous. They use this information to target individuals for the layoff. If you have been with the company for a short period of time, you are in the bottom 3rd of the SVP ranking and you have no desire to leave you are laid off.

The groups (HW, Field sales, Support and Consulting) have already been targeted.
