Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Social events

Recently joined and was wondering if this company holds any type of social events/gatherings where corkers can get to know each other outside work.

Previous companies I worked for always had these types of events as they realized how important it was for coworkers to know each other. Not to mention the impact it had on team moral.

I say we declare this coming Friday a company wide social day. Pick a few of your friends/coworkers and people you would like to get to know better and head to the local bar/pub after work.

Anyone who talks about work has to pay for the next round and those caught brown-nosing will be automatically disqualified from attending any future events. Bonus points for those who manage to expense the event.

Don't forget to post here during or after the event. BM and TM are welcome to attend ours but please make sure you have 2x the amount of fuel. Just trying to get my bonus points!

Social events make me laugh in GT&O in Richmond. Yes they have them, but its only for you the employee - if you want to bring a spouse a domestic partner or a date - sorry you have to pay for them.. Talk about cheap and so much for a moral booster! So for me - I don't attend!! Who wants to spend more time with people who are too scared not to go for fear of reprisals SAD!!!

What really torques most of the staff is the starched shirts that role in from New York - then take all their management buddies out for expensive food and alcoholic beverages when the workers cant even bring a partner to an event without paying 25.00 for them!!!!!!!!

Because then BoA employees might form a union which will actually do something instead of just constantly whining about how powerless you are...

All employee engagement activities are held during work hours and the budgets are different for each group. But remember, employees who have loyally worked for the bank for years are being laid off. People who are meets or exceeds. So enjoy that pizza lunch!

@eyv Can please clarify what you mean by

"Some groups are given an employee >engagement budget and plan events like >this and other do nothing."

Does that mean every group has certain amount of money allocated for such events? Also, what happens to the money if it is not used as described? Can it be used as bonuses for associates?

The employee network groups have these and are not specific to the group you work in - you can look them up and be added as a member, you will get info on all the things they have going on. Some groups are given an employee engagement budget and plan events like this and other do nothing. Really depends on how your group/ org is set up. Larger lines of business also does something 2x a year but not outside of work. It has been discussed but it is unsure participants would participate as some morale in some groups is low.

These events, if they have them in your group, are only worthwhile if you like or care for Indian food!

Good question, all the companies I worked for had this in place at least twice per year. With the bank I never heard of any unless you want to spend your weekend volunteering, they seem to move most of the volunteer work to Saturdays.
