As in, when you get laid off do they tell you that your termination date will be on date X in the future? Or do they just tell you on your last day that that day is your last day? The rumors I've heard indicate that people were told "hey, today's your last day," but that seems like such short notice. Anyone know for sure?

I don't think that's correct about the WARN act. They have to get the dept of labor notification and if it's more than 100 they have to do an announcement. It doesn't have to go directly to the employee. So for example, if only a dept was being laid off they could just target that dept with an email. But in this case it's the entire company... so that notification going to your personal email box covers the employee notification.
people who were laid off in Chicago were told to go, weren't even allowed to gather their items from their desks....
The warn act says the notification has to be addressed to the employee directly so the email notification that the entire company received does not qualify as notification for the 60 days. The EDD has all the details regarding qualified notification.
Asked to leave immediately, but will receive original pay for the next two months or the date stated on the severance agreement. Your official last date of work will be the date stated on the severance agreement.
I believe that the balance of the 60 days from notification has to be paid out as part of severence according to WARN Act. Those laid off immediately l believe are being paid for 60 days then getting severence pay.......

Its not short notice because by law he gave you a 60 day notice when the email went out in July
From some of the layoffs that has occurred they tell you the day of and have you to clean your desk out.
Everyone that was laid off in my office, was let go the same day.
