Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Where is the EISP that everyone has been discussing?

Exactly! Because it's not going to happen.

The union wouldn't know until the company tells them. Only the higher ups in the company know for sure.

Spoke with my union rep. let him know I was considering retiring in October and it would be real helpful if he knew anything about

an impending EISP. He said "sorry , haven't heard a thing".

Pretty much what I've been saying for a while now. October eisp coming, per my 3rd level. Don't know details or groups but one is coming to your mail in a few weeks.

Don't know...he just said there was a eisp coming...he also heard that it was going to be a good one. He didn't elaborate on what titles, I don't think he even knew...he just heard from A higher level manager that one was coming this fall.

Would this be for select groups like the call centers or company wide like the one back in 2010?

A manager with connections in high places says one is coming this year. He is one of the few good managers left, so I for one believe him.

I do not see this happening this year. Maybe next year.

@2aph

They did offer one last October....not every department and not every garage but they did offer one to a lot of people. I know some facility techs and some clerks who took it. I also know of some techs who wanted it but we're not offered it at their location. Also, linegang has not been offered one in a few years because of the fios buildout in our area. The company had a list of locations, titles and how many they would accept at that location and I don't think they got their target number. The company doesn't want a mass exodus and loose all of their experienced people, I believe they will continue to offer selected titles/areas an eisp until they eventually get everyone that has a pension coming to them off of the payroll. Some locations may have to wait a few years but they should eventually get one...if they are patient. I know the clerks that took it last year waited five years since the last one that was offered to them. Our garage historically gets the offer every fall.

-2nbi Then why did they not do that last year then since it was in the contract? They offered it to very few select groups. If they are trying to get the ones off the pension, etc. then they would have to offer it company wide to make it worth their while.

If the days of the eisp are over, then why did the company insist that it be in the contract to offer one per year? It is beneficial for the company to get people to take the lump sum buyout and leave....and replace them with new ones (only get two weeks vacation to start, are still in pay progression for five years, and get no pension. Their goal is to get everyone with a pension to leave.

Seniority is overrated. Now if you can do your job better, now that is worth something.

The days of the eisp for people who actually want to retire are over. The company is only interested in making offers that will benefit them, and the union only cares about hiring new people to collect more dues. Its sad but true, the old Bell days are over, seniority only gets you a couple extra weeks vacation and that's about it. The people who built this company are just being forced out to pasture, all that is left is to grab what you can before Verizon takes back everything and get a job with a company like Google who actually cares about the people who make the company great

When I first moved from a call center to outside craft, the company was simultaneously hiring new techs hand over fist, and giving buyouts to the old. I get top pay, have 5 weeks vacation plus 7-10 days excused time, with layoff and forced move immunity. They'd love to replace me with a street hire.

The company hired 250 summer temps back in April to do fios installs. It would save the company a lot of money to offer an eisp to get the people with five weeks vacation, who are at top rate and are on the pension, off of the payroll. Then they could make the summer temps permanent....only 2 weeks vacation, still in pay progression and have no pension.

All that's in there are service technician jobs. I do not see any techs getting offered an EISP. Call center jobs may be an entirely different story. There is no hiring taking place for any of those positions.

Take a look at VZ careers. If you still think there will be an EISP coming after looking at it, you're definatly a positive thinker! They may offer it to a small group here and a small group there, but the days of across the board offers are gone. If you are fortunate enough to get an offer and are ready to leave, you best take it and not wait around for the, always thrown around unlikely to materialize, "next one".

There is a major buzz in my garage, and my 2nd level did a wink wink type admission that one is coming in October as well, I just don't know how many more can be left go and still have a company. Our garage is busy now with work and we are forced most nights, weekends, and NS days no longer exist. You are forced in. So when the offer comes out in October if it involves craft it's going to be devastating. A company with a CEO that has brains would only offer it to call center office employees who can be easily replaced by people in pakistan.

Co workers are receiving literature in the mail from companies that want to manage their retirement funds. They don't mail them out for no reason...they probably pay off someone on the inside to get advanced warning of when one is coming. The company wanted it in the contract that they can offer at least one eisp every year. Historically, this is done around October. If there is one coming, I would expect it to be announced in September for an off payroll date in October, or announced in October for an off payroll date of November. I expect one will be coming soon!!!
