Oracle not able to attract top talent in silicon valley

What is the reason Oracle is not able to attract the top talent in the silicon valley. Is it just compensation, internal politics, reputation of being cheap or something else.

Oracle is the cheapest company and is run by bean counters

like Catz. Their trick is to hire new grads from top schools

by paying nice high starting salary luring them in and once

these new grads are in, they are stuck due to inertia (seduced

by the starting high salary) and have little advancement or

pay raises and zero perks. And drum rolls please, most of

these new grads targeted are H1B visas holders..

That's why Oracle has lots of Indian employees...

TK's reputation in the valley is so bad that nobody wants to join Oracle anymore.

I hate the age discrimination frequently expressed here. Not all the old guys are dead weight. There are plenty who work hard and whose technical skills are world class. However, they are often working on dead or dying products. Even when they transfer to a cloud organization bad management trumps hard work every time. The best ones hang on because it's extremely difficult to get a job given the rampant age discrimination.

It's a shame Oracle doesn't take advantage of all its talent both young and old.

Observing the same here. The hangers-on are those in their late 50s or early 60s who are hoping to make it to retirement. They can be M3s or M4s but will do IC2-4 work just to look busy. A few just claim they're busy but are sitting in concalls with the mute buttons on.

Dead weight.

That's why Oracle hires many H1B NCG. They can lock them in the company for 5-6 years. Some managers slowly process their green card application, so these kids can't go anywhere.

Of course, the brightest kids all go to Amazon, FB, Google, Linkedin.

Better NCGs gone fast. Worse NCGs have done nothing because they have been working on interviews since day one and still cannot get an offer. Who is the real loser?

Attrition rates are high in all ncg hiring across engineering and CS. Kids want to move and grow quickly out of scoops oracle recruits and are approved by LL.

Oracle offers graduates of top CS programs competitive packages and even slightly better than average packages. Yet, relatively few take those offers. One candidate we tried very hard to recruit (MIT grad) said that he heard Oracle was slow, bureaucratic, and didn't give new grads challenging work. Oracle definitely has a poor reputation with the top universities. Even more telling is that very few of the hires stay past the payout of their hiring bonus (paid over 2 years). Many leave before that. If someone leaves significant money on the table, you know they hate their jobs. Most development jobs at Oracle s--- due to bad management. With so many good jobs for CS grads, why would they come to Oracle or stay at Oracle? As an early poster said, only the old guys with kids in college or close to retirement stay.

The developers in the bare metal group are getting paid 2 or 3 times the usual salaries and they still have to pile on options and bonuses to get them to stay. Oracle just doesn't have the culture to keep a good development organization, at least not in the US.

I heard from a personal associate. This senior mgr was offered to join Orcl at 25% salary bump about a year back, but he declined as he did his research and was concerned as to what O would do once it's cloud craze is over.

oracle pays new college grads more than what it pays 5-10 years experienced employees at oracle . and they match the top companies with their packages . so top talents come to Oracle but they don't last after seeing the culture .

and the experienced guys see what the new NCGs gets paid and they ask to at least match their salaries and Oracle refuses . so these people also leaves . So who is left at oracle ? the very senior guys / the veterans who are about to retire who are well paid . on the long run those will retire and Oracle will only have NCGs who stays 2-3 years max at oracle before they hire leave and Oracle hires more .
