Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Demoralized - No manager, drawing paycheck watching movies and playing video games

(Fictitious disclaimer: Any resemblance between the characters in this post to any persons, living or dead, is a purely a coincidence) ... adding this in in case the layoff rolls over on me and spills my IP address or something. Take this post for nothing... I wont back it up...

Totally disconnected, burned through 3 managers in the past year. Reporting direct to an SVP until I get a replacement. SVP barely knows my name. Sales team is all new and clueless, they do't even know my role. Before my manager left he said I should contact the reps and see if they had anything I could work on. Why bother? Actively interviewing.

I saw Dark Tower this past week during work hours, filled out applications online and hung out at a Starbucks near a client. SCTA is a total lie, but its my fail safe until I can find something. As far as any one knows I'm at the client working deals... tied to reps no longer here... Never had a job or a company this dysfunctional.

I think the term was "pre layoff honey moon." If I get the axe before I find something I should get a decent package. Anyone have some good MMOs they'd like to recommend? Just killing time between interviews. So totally disconnected from everyone that my name is either on the chopping block or I'm totally safe.

Gut tells me its on the chopping block and it should be. I'm getting paid to do nothing. Not really a good feeling. Not exactly gonna dial in my exact role for obvious reasons, but the org is broken and I am sure I am not alone.

If it makes you happy check out the pay of LE,SC,MH & the rest on the financial sites. They're making more in 1 day than we make in a year.

Dude, quit, walk away , do something else, get another job, whatever. One should try and maintain self-respect . I agree with the previous posts that the big O can be a stupid place. Technologies being bought, modified, then ruined with over engineered and poorly implemented features. Engineers scurrying around making noise and accomplishing little of use. I was in that position and did walk away after 18 years, am taking the summer off and feeling much better. Its stressful not living up to your own expectations of yourself.

What can I say about OP's update, I found Dark Tower to be a boring movie, only makes sense if you want to and it the way you want to. Kinda low budget feeling to it. Keep us posted in this thread on how your adventure at big O goes, good luck.

Oracle is truly messed up. I'm not there anymore, but it was a real mess. Lots of people don't do much and the management doesn't seem to do much either. I don't think the management ever knew what they were doing. It was depressing.

I assume that's why your playing video games. But the last poster is right. If Oracle is willing to pay you for nothing, then use the time to develop your resume and skill set. I spent the last year or so learning web skills, that were not useful at Oracle, because Oracle cloud s---s, but they are useful now.

Playing video games? Watching movies? WTF is wrong with you?

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe we owe Oracle ANYTHING. But use all this free time to fix your career! Study. Network. Volunteer. Find some resume bling. If you are not going to put this time to use for Oracle, at least have the common sense to put this time to use for yourself!

Many work hard for the show off. No one works smart. That is why the company is rotten. Hang in there till you find the next job or get a s--- up promo and again, find another job unless you are close to retirement. There are companies selling unicycles and steam engines and people working hard there. Read the messages carefully before spending time on replying. No one cares for your ethics or loyalty.

Many engineering projects are useless with very few users. The engineers, managers, directors know they are building crap but for job security, nobody says a word. Keep "working" from home. Nobody cares.

many people work hard and they work over the weekend as well . it all depends on your manager and the kind of work you do . as a sales guy , you get the chance to leave the campus , so if you go to starbucks or a strip club. I don't think your manager will or should go run after you .

either way don't generalize . some people have ethics and they like to earn from their hard work . If you are in my group my manager would of kicked you long time ago.
