Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs timing for Hardware .

Assuming the worst case scenario that HW is closing and the layoffs are imminent.

any expectations on "when" ? That would help the people who are preparing for interviews / H1B visas manage their time .

Some says: end of (August)/ (Sep 1st)

Others say: 2nd week of September

I also heard : Q1 of 2018

if you are a manager or you have an insight about lists beings prepared / timing of these layoffs and can share, you will do us a big favor. If you are making assumptions please state how confirmed an assumption or a rumor is.

@OJVHPkQ-1myb : "I'll surprise Fujitsu buys Sun HW or Solaris. They are switching to Linux like the rest of the world."

Linux on what platform/HW (Sparc or x86) ?

Does Fujitsu makes / sells x86 based HW Systems ?

Don't you think they'd want to hold off on further HW RIFs until AFTER OpenWorld?

I'll surprise Fujitsu buys Sun HW or Solaris. They are switching to Linux like the rest of the world. And if Oracle can't make Sun HW profitable, why do you think Fujitsu can. The Japanese are not stupid.

@-1uaw has published smart interpretation. My bet is Q1 oracle fiscal which is now.

@OJVHPkQ

"I also heard : Q1 of 2018"

Be aware that it could be 'Q1 of Fiscal Year 2018', which ends Aug 31st Aug and the results come out

Mid-to Late September, so cpu/HW (Sparc / Solaris) layoffs could be any time from now through (before) mid-Sep.

1zbq - Would Fujitsu also buy the Solaris team?

This does make me wonder what Fujitsu is making of all these rumors, I suspect the LE or whichever minion is Fujitsu's contact is keeping them in the dark, unless of course they are trying to unload the Systems division on them. Of course, it would probably be easier to unload after a major RIF.

I don't know anything about tape engineering layoffs but I can assure you that any role associated with our tape products is not safe.

@OJVHPkQ-1vyr M7 is still most powerful CPU in the world. And M8 will be best for another 3 years.

They should sell the HW group to Fujitsu and be done with it.

Just assume it's tomorrow. If you're showing up to work and worrying about your deliverables please seek a psychiatrist. WARN won't give you any real warning, you have 2 months on payroll the day they terminate you (which is reasonably generous.) During this time your sponsorship will continue .
