Thread regarding Sears layoffs

There are no layoffs for one touch...

Somebody said that there will be no backroom due to one touch. That is not the case. There will still be backroom team and the lead for it and they will still process the truck, more so softlines than hardlines. There just won't be as many hours because of the simplification of receiving trucks.

It would not be feasible for all of the backroom tasks to fall on the rest of the store. There's a lot more to it than truck unloads.

I'm not corporate. I work in a store selling lawn and garden. I just wanted to point out what I have seen. Nothing major is changing except for taking the small goods out of the stock room. We've a one touch for almost two months now.

It's not technically a layoff but the lack of hours will force people to quit. That's the goal. Reduce expenses in the least expensive way possible.

One touch is a process. Little by little they will get rid of the backroom leads and teams and give the truck unloading and stocking to the associates. All you have to do is to read the One Touch documents that are in the store operations manual. This will give the positions, what they are to do and the hours they are expected to work.

If it comes to that in our store, it will be an epic fail....Don't expect any help from the prima-donna Brand Central associates who stand there with cups of coffee in their hand while watching MPU associates struggle to lift sold heavy 991 floor models

They and HI associates are also notorious for shoving carts of empty boxes or returns inside the mpu doors and walking away...instead of walking the cart to the loading dock and PMT.....

Then when a backroom associate calls them out on It, the sales associate just laughs and walks away....

On truck days, sales associates keep coming out to the truck asking if their customer item is off the truck yet and then keep asking when we will have it ready.

We reply that if they want to help us unload the thousand cartons of apparel off the truck in order to get to the customer orders behind it instead of hovering over us asking every 5 minutes, it would be a big help.....At that point, the salesperson goes running off the dock saying it's not their job.

I'm surprised you still have receiving leads. they eliminated our lead more than 6 months ago then made him the operations manager without opening the position up for others to apply for.

One touch at other retailers is not the program we are on, Receiving leads will be gone soon just like a fart in the wind

One of the associates that works in our receiving department also works for another retailer in receiving. They have been using the one touch system in their store for a while as do many retailers. He said at that store it works fine but the difference is that store staffs for it by having more employees and more hours dedicated to the process. We have been told if they go to the one touch system in our Sears store they will not increase staffing and hours and would actually reduce staffing and hours. In our Sears store the salespeople would then have to process the truck and even though a few grudgingly do so the majority do not and are not directed to do so.

The beginning of one touch keeps everything the same for a while. Then little by little they will make the cuts. Anyone who works in the backroom will be cut or reassigned to being a floor associate. Happened in my store and has happened in other stores. The truck and backroom will be run by the associates. We schedule some people to only do the truck and stock. The receiving person will do most of the backroom things that need to be done.

Yes, the backroom will fall on the rest of the associates. Give it time.
