Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

HW layoffs are too secretive this time !

People in HW are totally in the dark . They have no idea what is happening . You go to work in the morning not knowing if it's your last day there .

Since when O become the new apple as far as keeping things confidential. What is all this secretive meetings behind closed doors that includes very small group of managers.

Can somebody with any information tell us what is going on !

You have up to 2 months of grace period for COBRA. For example you can make no payments to COBRA, get in an accident, and then pay COBRA and file a claim as if you had done so from day one. I have a friend he just did that. The rule has always been pay for COBRA only if you have an event or you are falling off the grace period, whatever comes first. Read the documents and follow their deadlines closely. There is no reason to panic.

As soon as you get your package, call AG Sieben the company managing COBRA and talk to them about your situation. They're actually good people and will help you. The only challenge may be that they are a small company and if the layoff is big they may be very busy. Good luck !

This is what I was worried about. Possibly no medical coverage for a week while my cobra request is processed. I was hoping it could be seemless. Kind of scary for many of us. I am going to have to start making phone calls.

Technically your benefits (including health insurance) are terminated on midnight once you receive your notice. You have access to COBRA for 30 days after that, but it takes about a week for you to receive your paper work and send it back. If you do get RIFed, make sure your doctor/hospital is aware of this.

Oracle uses a third party to process COBRA requests. This information should be in your package. It may be worth a call to them to expedite the COBRA processing given your situation.

Also as warning COBRA through Oracle is expensive. It's probably over $2000 month if you have a spouse and children.

Call up BCBS of your state respectively and you can get an individual or family policy for as much or less than the oracle COBRA costs. Great coverage, no scams. I have a policy from them (never opted into Oracle plan) and I save money every month on coverage for my whole family.

not sure if you insurance ends the day you are laid off or the EOM, but you can extend it through Cobra so there is no gap in coverage but you pay for Cobra

All, I am in BUR and anticipating the possibility of getting let go next Thursday 8/24. (I am just hearing too much internal talk to ignore it at this point.) Bad timing but I am scheduled for shoulder surgery on 8/25 6am. Can someone confirm how health insurance the day after the cuts is going to work for me? I think I have seen conflicting answers on this. What do I have to do to ensure no gap in coverage? Also please confirm fedex picks up laptops/badges on the day of cuts, not the next day. Thanks so much.

This is the layoff that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends. 3 greedy A:holes started it, to enrich themselves and now they just continue it to run the company into the ground ....

No special secrecy for HW. Same as with all ORCL layoffs, nobody ever knows when the axe will fall, carefully planned each time to barely miss WARN thresholds. Won't stop with HW either because after it's gone ORCL is last place in low margin commodity business, last place in cloud etc.

@OLMOCCu-2mfj Thankyou for your post about how to tell spouse. I hope many find it useful/

Better to tell your spouse you are afraid you may be laid off than to tell them you already were.

Start slow. Tell them things are not going well at first. Let them digest that information. Then after a day or two tell them you heard about projects likely getting canceled. Then tell them layoffs are imminent and they could affect whole divisions.

The key is to give them time to absorb the information and to realize it is not really in your hands. Unless you were JF, you could have done nothing to save yourself other than maybe leaving a few months before. If the layoffs are actully happening on the 24th, you have some time to do this.

Your spouse may be shocked at first but if you have a reasonable relationship with them, they will understand and may even support you through the tough time.

Good luck!

How do you tell your spouse that you will be laid off? Very tensed. Immigration status everything will go.

so the rumor is August 24th.

but when you think about it , no real source for these rumors . if one person posted the layoffs will happen on the 24th multiple times on different threads it become a fact ?

I'm saying this because I know senior managers whom I talked to and they are totally in the dark . you can tell they are concerned and will imply that you should be ready because of no communication from their upper management so they expect the worse. but they didn't hear anything about layoffs coming or when it will take place

who ever mentioned 24th . how confirmed this information is . specially when all the senior managers I talked to have no clue what is happening

The 8/24 rumor is gaining speed. RIF's not limited to the Colorado teams. Austin and SCA to be smashed. My management chain has absolutely NO positive info to share.

There will be a substantial reduction in Colorado hardware on 8/24. Groups will be cut between 50% and 100%. Many brave managers have informed their impacted people already.

Forget about your current projects at O. Put it down. Start sending out resumes now. The hiring process easily take 3 months. Send out as many resumes as you can now.

Bring it on. Like many others in my group I'm looking forward to a nice severance package and to get the hell out of this place. In the meantime, I'm working on my resume and technical skills on Oracles nickel.

"If your manager knows nothing, he/she might be on the RIF list too."

That goes without saying. Obviously, there was an initial leak, that was low on details because they were none at the time.

"Frankly speaking, without knowing when will be the end of this wave, no one can concentrate on our future."

From what I have heard almost no one is doing any real work at this point and no one has confided that they have been told they are safe.

" Then trace this path all the way up to a parent node"

looks like you've been preparing for interviews, and you've been focusing on binary trees :)

If your manager knows nothing, he/she might be on the RIF list too. Then trace this path all the way up to a parent node/person who has more idea what's going on. The last RIF happened in HW group cut lots of entire team, including the manager. Sad but bloody true.

Frankly speaking, without knowing when will be the end of this wave, no one can concentrate on our future.

If some M8,7,6 are looking at this website, please do this quick. THANKS!!!

Think of it this way. If they're being this secretive, then it must be very bad and managers are probably under threat if they leak anything.

It would be nice to at least know when the ax is going to fall.
