HD smells like sawdust, sweat, and lumber, but Lowe's smells like flowers and fragrant bath fixtures. HD has 15% more men shopping there - DIY is driven by men's purchases as statistics show. Is this why Lowe's will always be runner up? Lowe's s---s and apparently men get it.

Very few real men left at lowes....
you build a house, you go to HD, you need the perfect chandelier, you come to lowe's. Lowe's doesn't understand the commercial customer. Under the current leadership, it never will. Heck Pro Desk closes at 2PM? The Pro Associates are gone by 3, no coverage, no building material orders, nothing. If Lowe's Pro Associate gets a $5K sale, they think they've hit gold. A true seasoned HD Pro Assoc would say is that all you're buying today if so you're not my time and move to the next pro customer and let a cashier ring them up. HD Pro Associates each rack in multi-millions in sales a year where we're lucky if the whole depart does a mill or two. Sad.. lack of leadership, lack of vision, lack of understanding, lack of knowing and understanding the "why" of Lowe's.
OP - this is so true man
A couple of months ago we had a woman return all the left overs from her bath renovation. There was something like 11 SOS faucets from 3 different stores. She kept a cashier and head cashier busy for several hours with that return. Of course she had no receipts, the faucets were missing pieces, just thrown in to boxes. But we worked several hours on this disaster and took it all back so that we could sell it at a loss.
A hardware store that caters to women? No wonder Lowe's can't reach #1 and never will. DIY makes 75% of their money from men, at least real men, so there you have it.
HD is a true workers store, Lowe's is for the powder puff urban upper class.
Lowe's has always enjoyed and promoted the female customer. It is clearly an advantage we have over Depot.
There needs to be pretty cashiers for us to flirt with as we check out.
Lowes caters to women anyway, figures married men wife has them by the nutsack. And women want to go with a winner so they go to Home Depot.
