Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

August 24 layoffs?

Well since we dwelling in rumors ... here is what I have heard:

Aug 24 is the next doomsday. Some say it will be HW only, others say Solaris will also get whack.

New colleges grads, especially in SCA, are going to let go, the reason being that given the future, and the history of no raises, they would leave anyway.

That a lot of people volunteered (informally) to be laid off. Of course this doesn't guarantee that they will be chosen.

That not enough people volunteered to be laid off.

Also heard this:

On the day before doomsday, if you can still access the HR webpage, that you're "safe"

Overheard a suggestion to sign up with FedEx to be notified when a package is shipped to you. If one is (and you aren't expecting one) then you know what that means.

Bumped from another thread for info. Posted by @OMS3JJE-1hua.

I didn't leak the date, but generally I think Oracle tries to align the dates around pay periods if possible. In some cases this isn't possible as there is always the possibility some last minute details may push the date out a few days beyond the end of a pay period. I believe this was the case with the January RIF in the systems group.

Where this number "24" came from? Why the layoffs on August 24th ? Why not tomorrow (Thursday) or Thursday August 31st?

The layoffs seems to be imminent, but who ever leaked that date Please tell More.

Manager cleaning out their offices is not a good sign. The only managers I saw do this before the January RIFs had advanced notice that they were going to be impacted.

It seems like the 24th for sure and maybe sooner. When I left to go home today I noticed 6-8 strangers pounding away on laptops in one of the conference rooms. This also happened right before the last layoff. Everybody, even managers are starting to clean out their offices and take things home. My guess is this time the number of layoffs will be in the hundreds. If they had kicked JF out years ago maybe this shutdown would not have occurred or at least been delayed. Too bad, because the M9 chip was coming along very well. I wonder what happens to all the IP (Intellectual Property)?

The major hardware groups left are the SPARC teams in SCA and BUR, as well as the x86 teams in BUR and SCA. With the cancellation of SPARC M9, there is no road map for SPARC. The impact on x86 is less certain. The question with x86 is whether Oracle still believes it has some advantage in building it's own systems for its cloud infrastructure. I guess the bare metal could guys would have some input there. If the bare metal teams believes there is some value in the x86 hardware teams, then they would like be moved into the cloud organization (likely after a RIF to eliminate some unnecessary functions).

Hmmm, sounds concerning, yet it's just a rumor so we'll see what happens
