Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Work from home at Dell Emc

I really wanna say this. Lot of people work from home in Hopkinton and NDC. Some employees send email at morning 5 or 6 saying VPN is not working or unable to connect to blue or red networks. Or issues with pgnet.

That's just bogus, it means a day off. Managers and their favorites work from(for) home 3 months a year.

We are doing it for years in NDC, other sites should learn from us. What’s the point in coming to work when there is no work, save the drive and say WFH. Learn from QA.

Don't know about BDC, but at NDC engineers work 2 hours a week, we come late, browse internet, walk around the building, talk on phone, take 2'hours of lunch and leave early. A job is a job, you have to be team player :-)

I can vouch for the incompetence of these two so called techies of BDC. Everytime I approach them with problems they run away. Indirectly they hit me back through complain my manager. My manager s---svup to them as he is useless s---er who is also lazy. They techies call themselves senior architects and only thing they know is politics. I have never seen these kind of techies in my seven years work in other companies also. Enjoying all perks with no technical knowledge and only doing politics and keep working home for most days in week.

When it comes to WFH nothing can beat the two super techies of BDC storage. They WFH more than 50 percent of their time..come to office two days a week. When they WFH they spend thirty minutes In the morning send mail after mail giving some minor review comments or asking some silly question in mail threads. That will establish that they are working from home. After that no-one knows what they do. They again emerge for thirty minutes in the evening to do the same. This technique is perfected to the core by these two super techies. They also have their idiot boss who comes to office to talk about photography or pick some fight with some hapless folks or generally gossip. You folks in NDC and MDC have a lot of learning to do to catch up with these super techies and BDC storage team.

Well, you can't be a manager if you put in an hour and half of work in one day...

This is how we end up with the moronic policies that HP, IBM, etc have.

Those companies have those policies because they are in trouble .. they do not trust their employees who are very demoralized thinking only about new job outside..

Wow you did way more than I did. My toughest task today was how to fill out my time card for the day when I didn't do anything. Trust me I have this down over years of practice.

What a stupid ignorant and unfounded comment. Completely unqualified to talk about reality. Maybe should backoff on the caffeine, seem a little high-strung and angry.

or you're one of those older people that arrive at 7 am every morning, f*** around until 11, and leave at 3)

I don't know if it's the same person but these comments about WFH need to catch up with reality - just because you need to drive in everyday to be productive (or you're one of those older people that arrive at 7 am every morning, f*** around until 11, and leave at 3) and you abuse it doesn't mean everyone else abuses it.

This is how we end up with the moronic policies that HP, IBM, etc have.

Just because you can only work by being in the office does not mean everyone is as location specific as you. I solve my own vpn problem, connected and work throughout the day and night sometimes at odd hours. Getting things done that 10 slackers sitting in the office showing their faces could not.

I don't know about people who are abusing the system but if you are an honest professional working from home, productivity level definitely goes up. There is no difference between a slacker who comes to office everday and a slacker who works from home. It's all about the mindset and the decipline that the individual has. In today's work environment, work can be accomplished from anywhere. If you are motivated and ethical, it really doesn't matter whether you contribute to your company from the office cubicle or home office.
