Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

zero communication from above, but people are already out.

whoever you talk to they say: " nobody knows, even senior managers and good friends up in the chain say there is no news as far as what is happening" at the same time everyone is preparing to exit, people are packing and saying goodbyes even managers are telling you its over and go look for a job.

what I don't understand, why everything sounds like its the end ( which most likely is, I am not saying its not) while there are no communication channels open with those managers. Is being in the dark with no road map is the only indication of these layoffs? or there are information got leaked from above that confirmed the layoffs and people are reacting to that?

@OPlYwRQ-1yjc - correct. The biggest mistake the ORCL M&A team made with LEC and integration was failure to break up the core of the old Sun mafia.

Sun was a great company once, but it was a failing company when Oracle acquired it. You can blame Oracle for a lot things, but I don't think you can blame Oracle for screwing Sun up. The Sun management team had a much bigger role in that.

If the layoffs happen over time in waves. I have no idea what the survivors of the layoffs in HW will be doing? There are no projects, no road map, everyone stopped and cleaning their disks.

If they say " do what ever you doing now till we find out", that means basically do nothing.

In all fairness to oracle - I don't thinks so. The Sun acquisition was a total F:up, and software acquisitions have been no better - good companies when acquired but then wrecked by LE& co, so no credit. LE & co are a total disaster now cloudwashing revenues to keep up the share prices.

Unfortunately this whole process is likely to drag on. The phasing out/back of the hardware business will happen over time, not with the flick of switch. If there are layoffs in hardware next week as some are predicting (all just rumor at this point), they certainly won't the last and only one.

You can argue wether Oracle does a good job on how it handles layoffs, but the reality is that their business model is changing and that likely going have an impact on the work force.

In fairness to Oracle, they seem to have given the Sun hardware business plenty of time and investment. It probably would have been a whole lot worse had IBM bought Sun, or Oracle didn't step in to buy Sun once the IBM deal fell through.

They are dragging it out to keep it under the radar. LE cannot bring himself to publicly admit that he and his lieutenants F:ed up, especially with LE insisting for the longest time that the Internet wasn't real. So now he tries, unsuccessfully, to cover up his stupidity by laying off oracle in small numbers every month. This has been going on for over a year and will most likely continue for another year. But, hey, it works for LE's trumpian, i.e., very fragile, ego.

I'm not sure why the wait to start with.

Oracle can layoff all of us today instead of dragging it that long and keeping it a big secret.

another reason they keep it close to the vest is they may be afraid that people who have dedicated their lives to the company and now have nothing to lose may destroy Oracle data or equipment while waiting for the layoff

Why does it have to be top secret? This oracle behavior is so childish and insane. Every public company - all of which, with the singular exception of oracle, are run by reasonably sane adults, announce that there will be layoffs way in advance. Only oracle engages in this idiotic secrecy. To say that LE is totally deranged would be the understatement on the century. GROW UP LE!

Top secret = nobody knows anything.

why people act like they know everything?

there can be multiple scenarios other than massive layoffs;

  • HW get sold to another company

  • partial layoffs

  • different strategy

the odds for any of these scenarios are slim to none. but I am just confused that people already made the massive layoffs scenario as a fact specially when nobody communicated this fact on any level!

My manager also clean up his stuff. The Dir in my group also sit around and do nothing.

I never see this happen before (20 years !!!)

Here the tip. On Wed just go to your group mail room and check out to see if there are any moving box there. You can calculate if the whole group will be gone or just some. (4 or 5 box per employee).

I saw these moving box appear every time the day before layoff!!!

HR and the lawyers say it has to be top secret.
