As part of this Burlington, MA-based team of hardware and software professionals you will work within a sub-team that develops leading edge servers for use in both stand-alone and specific appliance applications.
The successful candidate will be very knowledgeable in all aspects of leading edge Server development and deployment. This position involves coordinating with internal and external groups to form requirements, designs and implementation plans for advanced new functionality of the server products.
Essential Functions
As System SW/FW Architect and Lead you will work with a cross functional team of hardware, operating system, applications and embedded firmware teams to provide guidance and project coordination for implementations that provide new state-of-the-art features on leading edge Server products.
As a SW/FW Architect and Lead you will:
Develop a very deep and broad understanding of the various sub-systems that make up leading edge server products.
Work with Product Marketing and internal customers to determine new requirements for their applications.
Socialize new requirements and work with the larger cross-functional engineering groups to determine what implementations will satisfy the requirements.
Produce System Functional Specs based on the agreed requirements and implementation directions.
Perform hands-on development work in instances where quick implementation or modification is required.
Knowledge and Skills
This position requires a strong understanding of all aspects of server system design and implementation, including BIOS/EFI, system management using embedded Linux and general hardware design.
Strong communications skills to be used in understanding customer requirements, translating those to system specifications and presenting the results to engineering and management teams. Must also be very comfortable leading groups of engineers to discuss implementations and debug problems.
Must be comfortable working alone to quickly modify existing products or create new products in order to show proof of concept.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
MS or BS and 7 years of experience in developing leading edge server systems
BIOS/EFI implementation
Intel x86 architecture
Embedded Linux
Project Management skills
Networking technologies (e.g. Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Infiniband)
Component interconnect technologies (e.g. PCIe, I2C, USB)
Representational State Transfer (ReST) APIs
Cloud-based computing technologies (provisioning, monitoring and maintenance)
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.
Provide leadership and expertise in the development of new products/services/processes, frequently operating at the leading edge of technology. Recommends and justifies major changes to existing products/services/processes. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 8 more years of software engineering or related experience.
