Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sears Simple Stores will fail

Simple Store will be a failed initiative, no doubt. I can just picture the media going into random stores photographing pallets of merchandise in the middle of the aisles for weeks at a time because there's not enough people to put it out.

When it finally does get put away, merchandise will be crammed on shelves and fixtures. There will be no choice because according to corporate and district management, it cannot go into a stock room.

In some cases, categories of merchandise will be mixed because there's no room for it in its proper area. Pick a hand soap off of the ettigeire next to the Craftsman drills, or pick a scarf out of the bin between the Kenmore washers and dryers. Hey, it's suggestive selling!

Meanwhile, no one will be able find anyone to answer questions, sell them something or check out...still.

I sell on commission. The moment they make me do the tasks the backroom used to do is the moment I will walk out the door for good. There are only so many ways we can be exploited before everyone working for Sears reaches a breaking point.

Simple Store s---s! The place is a mess, there is no staffing and I don't have the hands to get merchandise to the floor. Nobody wants to work for Sears and I barely have enough people to cover the cash wraps. Yet the expectation is that everything should be done 100% all of the time. The clearance blowout has sent me over the edge. The Goodwill Store looks better than Sears right now.

@aji, I have a suggestion if "Simple Store" is supposed to be good for the customers. Why not push the Z-Racks out to the Softlines area and the Bakers Racks to the hardlines area and let customers shop from them.

Problem solved. Then explain to management that you only had enough people to get those fixtures on the floor and if you want the stuff put away correctly schedule more people.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Simple store isn't the solution. That's obvious. Simple store is something to buy more time so they can think of a true solution if one exists. Simple store is the equivalent to life support. You keep enough for basic functions to buy time to fix what's wrong.

Yes it s---s but its y'alls only hope.

I wonder if anyone here can think if a solution that will bring sears back to normal operations. How do you fix a company that's billions in debt, has no money, and isn't profitable, and who's workers are sick if the conditions they work in?

Well you can't fix the work conditions because you don't have the money to do so. The debt can't be paid with cash due to lack of cash. The only true option is to cut expensive while attempting to slow the bleeding to a level that allows you to downsize the company to a point where it's expenses are no longer greater than its revenue.

I think one of the biggest problems with SHC is it's size. It can't sustain itself anymore so the only option is to chop off its own limbs until reaching a point where maybe it can sustain itself. Sears generates revenue. The problem is it's expenses far outweigh that revenue currently.

Lack of good leadership is another issue obviously but I feel like even if you guys changed out your leadership the new leaders would come to the exact same conclusion at this point.

Am I wrong? If I am explain why.
