Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Don't call the cops!!!

We have no AP at the store "but don't call the cops!" if someone walks out with several hundred dollars worth of stuff, even if they do it enough that they are a regular. "Remote monitoring" will handle it.

Yet they still come.

Go out to the far corner of the parking lot and you'll see a car or two suspiciously parked there for hours. Doubt it is a "lunch break". When they leave, they leave all this trash behind, needles and condoms even. Oh, but let them be! Don't call the cops!

It has been well known before this board even took off that many SHC stores lack AP. We lost ours way back in 2009, it's been worse year after year. Mentioning the fact that most stores only do remote monitoring should put a little pressure on corporate to bring back in-store AP, ya think?

Maybe not...maybe there's some kind of insurance for "shrink" where they get paid for missing merchandise, so maybe then it is cheaper to let it all go easily than to try to stop it. That's not ethical, that's like getting into a wreck when you could have avoided it just to get a new car, but ethics and SHC are oxymorons.

When someone shoplifts, it affects our paychecks and our viability as a whole so yeah, I take it personally. I used to be an AP associate at a different retailer before coming here as an ASM and it really grinds my gears that I--or anyone else--cannot do $#!t about this crap. Where I used to work, we didn't play. We went all out...we had apprehension and detain powers and pressed charges on all but the smallest cases.

For the life of me I cannot understand why they don't train management and a few trusted associates to rotate on LP duties if they don't want to pay the wage for someone dedicated to do this.

Why to help the cause. Announce to everybody that there is no AP. Good job!

I don't know how this thread went from external theft to syw points.. but I'll chime in as well ..

RM is a joke!! They are equivalent to the commercial on Tv when the dentist claims he is a dental monitor, they are a theft monitor.. as to not being allowed to call PD when a theft occurs, that is a decision that should be made by a manager not the cashier, and before they walk out offer them some help, page that PD is in route or on the phone- shoplifters are naturally spooked.

As for syw, we all know the registers at Sears and Kmart are beyond slow, so as your helping that member redeem their 72¢ your backing up the lines, pulling resources off he sales floor(to back up cashier), decreasing profit margin, and negatively impacting sales for your store (when your store closes for lack of profitability, remember all the times you gave a member 72¢ off their purchase). SYW is a tool to coax people into shopping our stores, let's not ruin it by making them dump their purchase at the cash wrap because they have to wait in line for some random customer to get 72¢ off their roll of toilet paper.

If there is no patterns of illegal activity on a regular basis, then you can report the store as a nuisance property, even making an anonymous complaint. That will light a fire under management's behinds.

That's because RM is watching the employees instead of the shoplifters. Maybe the employees should stand next to the thieves while they're loading up so RM can see it being done. SMH.

Yeah we were told that years ago. We weren't supposed to actively ask people about points unless it would close a sale.

I can kinda understand it though because there's really no point in asking people if they wanna spend their 72 cents in points. Waiting and allowing it to accumulate makes them seem more valuable even though that's not necessarily the case.

Today at our morning rally meeting we were told not to ask members to use their points. We can sign them up, but cannot ask them if they would like to use their points. I will still ask, as they are theirs to use.
