Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I totally agree with the laid off employee that there will be many, many people losing jobs
to the high technology replacing them.
It’s a no brainer, and it’s shows not only at verizon- auto makers are automated, there’s probably 14 people on the assembly line when there use to be 48.

@1tnm, you're making stupid excuses to justify the unjustifiable. Blaming it on the election - what a crock. I'd be willing to bet you were a tightwad long before election night. You're just cheap, mean, and soulless individual.

If you cannot afford to eat out, don't eat out, or, stick to McDonalds. Tipping is part of the cost of eating out at a restaurant. Waiters and waitresses are not your personal slaves, they are working very hard in order to make money. That labor deserves to be compensated for. No one made you work for nothing. You were always fairly compensated, yet you refuse to to offer others the same courtesy.

You miss the point of being a great company and that is being upfront and honest with your employees. Verizon has been underhanded for over a decade! Froze mgmnt pensions in 2006 and raising medical costs on mgmnt and not on Union over that same time. If your business model is getting rid of the brains of this company only to keep the other half who doesn't think the company pays them still you are doomed . I would respect my manager if he told me to my face that engineers will all be eliminated in five years. I would continue to work until then and plan accordingly but no , the deception and veiled threats will continue.

What a disgusting bunch of elitist trash playing games with some of the most dedicated people in any company in this country. People dedicated during disasters and strikes and every day to keep the data flowing and businesses working. A company like this deserves to burn to the ground.

@1gwf new restaurants every time, and I eat out only on weekends. I'm long forgotten before I go back, not like it's new employees all the time, anyway... And since we as a country were dumb enough to vote for drumpf, I figure Amerikans don't deserve to be tipped so F em...

@1wrn, if you're tipping next to nothing at restaurants, you're a dirtbag. Most of those folks work very hard, put up with a lot more than they should have to, and swallow their pride on a daily basis in an effort to diffuse conflict.

If you happen to frequent the same restaurants regularly, I'd check my food real carefully.

As someone who has survived over 40 Rifs during my 35 years, had pension frozen, made it thru a bunch of mergers my humble suggestion is that we all relax. The fellow employees that I have been in contact with especially over the last 5 years are outstanding talented individuals (I am pretty sure you posters are too). So I wouldn't worry about 5 years from now, enjoy each day, hug the wife and kids. Have a beer. If you enjoy the job stay, if not my hunch is that you will more than flourish in your other pursuits. Remember happiness is an inside job, so if you Lowell is bothering you,only you are hurting cause he doesn't know or probably care. Executives have come and gone but they are all the same so don't let it ruin your day. Control what you can control. Just my 2 cents.

Real people with real problems still relying on Verizon should see the writing that's been on the wall for the past 3 plus years.

If you don't have your resume, LinkedIn and emergency fund ready to go then shame on you for having your head up your a$$.

And yet with all these layoffs we still have Verizon's captain Mr Mcadam giving himself raises and bonuses and comforting his fellow CEOs. Hard to justify layoffs when the reason the company is in the mess it is happens to be getting compensated rather well.

Agreed 100%. Wireless technology is never going to be better than wired since wired is now instantaneous (FIOS) but the company will FORCE people to move to wireless whether they want to or not and the landline side will be sold off to a 3rd world company like Frontier who won't be able to afford to pay its employees. 5 years sounds about right. Look back 5 years to your work group, it's probably down 50% or more people from 2012. Imagine how it will look in 5 more years when you have godless people like lowell mcadam in charge of your employment. The uber rich only care about themselves and the investors, period.
