Thread regarding L3 Technologies layoffs

More info on Waco buyouts

For those who are interested, a bit more info on the offered buyouts. Is anybody else worried of what will happen down the line if not enough people accept these?

You do not have to wait for your severance to run out to get unemployment benefits. Sign up immediately.

It is not considered a "severance" package because it's not outright without conditions. It's conditional in that you sign an agreement not to sue the company in exchange for the package. It's clearly spelled out in section 207.049 of the Texas Unemployment Compensation act. If it was a TRUE "severance" pay, then yes, you wouldn't be able to apply for benefits, but such is not the case here. Apply for your unemployment benefits ASAP after leaving. When they ask if you're getting "severance", say no. Again, section 207.049 is pretty clear about this. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/LA/htm/LA.207.htm#207.049

I will tell all my former L-3 family members from Waco. Hang in there and if for some reason you are let go, trust me life is good outside of L-3. It is a relief that I no long work there and would never dream of returning. There are jobs available that offer less stress and longer life. I say go for it and make the leap.

If you take the severance package-- does that mean you will NOT qualify for unemployment benefits?

Of course it will happen again, it's spirally downward out of control. Take the package now while the getting is good. Next time they may decide to meet their numbers by firing one or two at a time for little to no reason like they have been doing the past 2 years...
