Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Fun and games

Hey 3 Stooges, here's an idea, rather than delaying planned layoffs when the word gets out, why don't you just announce layoffs in advance like all other companies (yeah, I know all these other companies are run by mature adults ...). Just so you know everybody is expecting the layoff and the word will be all over the place as soon as the first employee gets their notice, so grow up and stop playing these silly games.

Except for people who don't get WARN and are told to shop up that day and lose their healthcare insurance that evening. Not so nice, now is it?

But we all get 2 months' formal notice with zero expectation to show up. I never knew anyone at IBM or Intel who got such a nice deal, probably because they avoided WARN and/or WARN didn't exist at that time.

Not it's not, just note that both MSFT and Cisco clearly announced in advance that hey would lay people off, how many, and when. So not every company is run by A:holes.

If companies really behaved the way the OP expects there would be no need for thelayoff.com

Companies of all sizes play the WARN game and layoff people with no notice.

At a former employer an entire team of 20+ people in my division got whacked over Christmas break with no warning. I recall walking to my desk on January 2nd and seeing people huddled in the hallway, with stunned looks on their faces. I asked them what was wrong and that was when I learned that the XXX team was laid off between Christmas and New Years, while most of them were on vacation. And this was at a company that used to always make the "best places to work" lists.

They're all scumbags now. That is the new normal.
