Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

About to Settle with Apple

Aberle was the scarificial lamb for Apple to settle. This is a typical Apple demand, trust me on this.

Think about it, Qualcomm lost $35B in market cap because we would not pay Apple $1B in rebates.

On top of that the Apple situation added much more gasoline to the already burning licensee dissatisfaction with the royalty model.

Pretty dumb decision, DA needed to go. I am a shareholder and I'm pissed.

@2dkm exactly right. Which is why Apple will not tolerate negotiating a settlement with him in place. His stepping down is either a sign the Qualcomm is ready to settle or that Apple require his head as part of the deal. Either way, good news on this front should be coming soon.

DA is responsible for all the (allegedly monopolistic and anticompetitive) licensing agreements. He is also responsible for the decision to withhold the licensing rebate to Apple. Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost (Not in a good way) for all the foregoing business decisions that were made under his watch. Maybe the consequences are that DA either step up, or step down...

Maybe or maybe not true. There is probably some merit of each side. Very much likely settlement not of court as not wise to let courts set new standards for the IP license going forward.

@iud Hey crap head, Aberle was effectively Mr. QTL (he ran that division previously), every legal decision (especially licensing) goes through him. He is responsible for the entire Apple legal suit. Don't you know your own company? Apple wants his head on a platter...

Both companies need each other. Apple needs Qualcomm modem, Intel is way behind.

There will be no settle. Why apple would do it when they pay $0 now. It will only happen when ITC decide to ban apple. i don't think it will happen though.

Makes sense to me, he had a cushy job with big bucks. Either Apple force this or Qualcomm is ready to settle and felt they had to move Derek out.
