Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

To middle level management, be human.

To all directors and above at Oracle, grow a set and let people know that are impacted so they can find employment. I have not seen one director let go, these sleaze seem to slime their way out of every lay off. Try being human, if you're male "don't be a d--k" if female "don't be a b!tch". Treat the people you've work with for many years as human beings, not some fvcking number on a list. Another note, don't give the corporate line, be honest. Man and Woman up, don't act like these people being impacted are some number, their not. Their human beings that have feelings and many cases many dependents depending on them.

I doubt that at director level, he/she does not know will be on the list. It is just a BS. I know in System Sparc hardware, there are two HW directors in SCA (KC and ME) keep hanging on the job waiting for right time to retire. ME is a micro management HW engineering director. He got promote to senior director late last year while some of his employees got RIFed. He got credit from his engineers' work.

"It's just the entire atmosphere of the corporate that forces the middle level management to focus too much more on playing political tricks than encouraging technological innovations. I've seen how they undercut others to save the jobs of "their own people" and it's really not cool for anyone to do that. Honestly we should feel lucky if we are done with Oracle."

Yes, absolutely agree. Way too much manipulation and sabotage going on. Waste of time and destroys good products. It will never change, though.

@OWs5aGC-vom:

not everyone in this world who's in the management chain is a jerk or out just for themselves

Then why do you write like a complete jerk?

Read your own post again and see for yourself if you come across as a typical Oracle middle-management jerk. Or not.

Speaking as a director, not everyone in this world who's in the management chain is a jerk or out just for themselves. If you feel that OP you're a sad sack of s---

Some of us have been working tirelessly to help those who will be impacted by this layoff and prior to get jobs.

Stop being an a--hole and realize there are people out there who enjoy and like doing their jobs at all levels.

VPs/directors just want to hang around managing useless projects as long as possible until their retirement.

Architects design crap that nobody wants.

The product management is a joke. All they do is writing press releases at GA.

Engineers know their projects are useless with no customers, so they "work" from home, vacation home, beach, shopping mall or do other things.

Smarter ones run their side business while they "work" from home.

That's the Systems group. Complete waste of engineering resource.

Same for Oracle Linux. There is no real user except Oracle customers. Everyone else use Redhat, Ubuntu and Centos.

My experience, besides dealing with grammar NAZI's that demean people for a posting on a blog. Honestly, given number of people "employee" to Director level management. No way the same proportion. Middle level management has destroyed Linux on SPARC, ZFSSA, SuperCluster and some other products. Fowler, drove the systems business in the ground trying to protect Solaris engineers. No the result, people loose jobs and fvck hole directors keep their jobs. Oracle HR, go to hell and rot. Oracle HR are bigots, don't care about anything but their own, have s-x with their bosses and love dogs. Oracle HR and all the fvck stains in Oracle HR should go to hell. I feel better.

I have personally seen directors let go in previous rounds, so that claim is BS. The confirmed list of names is not shared until the very last minute when you get told who to notify and even then its only your own folks. Most directors will have heard the same rumors but will have few facts. In my experience, most managers and directors that do say something are often just passing on speculation or outdated info themselves. Note all the "my M said definitely 24th" "oh nothing happened" stuff we just saw as proof of this

Also note that per-country rules exist over how notifications are made and what consultation is needed. It is not possible to go around the world saying "Hey Joe, just fyi but you're getting laid off next month"

The only thing that could be announced in advance is "we will let x-hundred jobs go this quarter" or similar but, if you think about it, that's not a huge improvement because everyone is then still waiting to find out if they're included in that set anyway, unless the cut is so big you know it includes everyone.

Grammar NAZI's are back. Mostly likely some HR puke that tries to demean people so they don't speak. They should fire you for being such a prick.
