I work on a regional product team, after 9 years as a TL. We hate the conference calls too but with unending pressure from above to continue to "innovate" and define programs (many of which are entirely based on a DL/KM/VP/RP/RVPs ideas that they thought were 'cool') that they 'feel' will bring the customers back...We say one thing (No more 'walks') and then go right on doing what we've always done and it's no wonder we were ripe for the buyout.

People used to miss conference calls all the time. Conference calls are an absolute waste of time. No one participates, everyone keeps working and many just put the thing on mute and keep working (or pretending to work). I know someone who fell asleep once after checking in and woke up 5 minutes after it ended. There were never ANY repercussions.
