Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Power Equipment Certified

Does anyone else think that you should be compensated for being power equipment certified? Lowe's big two points is safety and customers. Being trained and efficient on power equipment should mean something right?

Customer? Which customer? an internet fulfillment center has been shoehorned into an old brick-n-mortar business. Processes are not clear, something somewhere has got to give. That something will not be revenue.

I let mine lapse. I will not get it renewed. I see no benefit to having it. I simply opt out. Less chances of getting fired. When I worked for HD I refused to get license unless they paid me more. They never did so I never got it..

Power Equipment is NOT a REQUIREMENT to remain employed in ANY department even in Lumber, if it was the case that you HAD to have a PE certification to work in your said department then why would the "opt in opt out" choice be there on the learning center in the first place? Furthermore, a lot of old guys that have been there for years said what someone else on here mentioned, the easiest way to lose your job is to operate power equipment in Lowes, a lot of the stuff being done using power equipment should be done (as per the Employee Resource Guide POD# 94387) should only be worked on when the store is closed. Unless there has been a major change that none of Lowes employees were made aware of concerning PE Certifications, it's not a requirement to keep your job that said, Lowes is a "Hire and FIRE at will company" which really means they can let you go for not choosing to use power equipment even with the option to Opt Out.

Lowe's has an opt in and opt out option. Funny thing is it's never enforced. We have people who opt out and are in positions that require power equipment yet they don't care if they put a burden on others because they won't get a license. Of course most of those are women. It's safe to say the majority of women don't have license and force men to help do their job. It's one thing to help in a bind it's another when they can't do what they are supposed to do. Yet they want equal money. So yeah I think having a license should get you more since you are risking your job and able to be more productive. Maybe then women would get a license??

All the ASM's are PE certified in my store, only they will tell you they are not but I see them using PE after the store closes. Our store manager isn't certified, she's too into fashion and merchandising to learn how to use PE.

More knowledge?! Lol... if you watch your senior management team they're likely not certified... store managers stay off lifts because it's the easiest way to get fired - there's some knowledge for you. They won't compensate you for that. Lol

Let's see having a PE license puts you always at risk of being fired. It outs you in demand outside of your department and to the person below that says it helps you move on or up obviously doesn't realize the higher up you go the less you drive. So its meaningless if you have one. All you are doing is risking your job.

No, on the compensation, you are only helping yourself with more knowledge. This knowledge could help you move on up or stay employed since you know how the pe works, that's a good thing!

If you had a decent management team they would require everyone to be PE certified unless they have a doctor's note...

I agree! I can run all the yellow equipment and I frequently can't get work done in my own department due to getting down things for other departments. One of our former department managers left for a warehouse job and makes $4.00 more an hour. He said he wouldn't have gotten that job without knowing how to operate power equipment.
