Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Can somebody confirm this?

Prep for RAs has started with a new colocation phase. Now home office employees in the U.S. within 50 miles of an IBM office are being told to shut down their home offices and start reporting to the nearest IBM office or mobility location as of 7/18. No more reimbursement for home phone or mileage to IBM locations. No plans to expand office space, if you come in and a desk is not available too bad. This may frustrate enough to resign before the RA round begins.

Is this true? I work at home office, and I am well within 50 miles of an IBM office. Nobody called me yet, but should I be worried?

Our manager has scheduled individual meetings with several of us in his group for tomorrow and Thursday. We're all home office employees.

Expect a bad 2Q and an "extremely large" restructuring to follow.

That's the word I'm hearing.

Scam to rid FTE's

Most locations allow work from home office even though you are assigned a cubicle.

The first email about anyone living within 50 miles or less having to work from an IBM center was sent over 2 years ago. Have you seen any account teams moving to an IBM center to work?

I certainly have not and think its nothing but a scam. You cannot tell me that account teams would be exempt from the whole "co-location" initiative.

Exactly - there are a ton of reorgs going on right now and planned. IBM is making changes everywhere but the one place they should be making them - IN THE OFFICE OF THE CEO AND ALL HER DIRECT REPORTS. Stockholders should revolt. They were downgraded to a STRONG SELL rating today. I can't wait for the 2Q results next week! And the *-show immediately after as they "continue the [employee] beatings until morale improves". Hoping again that I get picked for an RA.

"No plans to expand office space, if you come in and a desk is not available too bad."

So if I can't find a desk, what do I do? Go work from home?

This sounds like the kind of thing they would do, and it fits in with other rumors about what's going to happen in the next few weeks. I am also within 50 miles of an IBM office but no one I work with is. I would have to add two hours to every work day for absolutely no benefit to anyone. So how am I supposed to believe this is anything but a way to get me to quit?
