What's your thoughts? Let's face it, open door is a joke and your often punished or retaliated against when you use it.

Yes! It's time.
Loss of jobs.
Loss of pay.
Loss of weekends.
Loss of time off.
Loss of overtime.

It is time to unionize Lowe's. I have been with the company for many years. It was once a great place to work for, but greed and politics are taking over and the upper management don't really care for the employees anymore.

It would be nice, but Lowe's would never let that happen. In the "emergency handbook" in the training room (or wherever your store might have it) it lists contact with a union representative as an emergency situation! I also remember a Store Cup quiz about how bad unions are. Apparently the manager on duty is supposed to assert that he or she does not believe that the representative represents the employees.

Nope. Unions have their place. Retail is not the place.

I agree that Open Door is just crap. You can't even go to HR in our store because the HR Manager is so far up our store manager's butt, it's not even funny anymore. You can't say a word to HR about anything at all or within minutes the store manager is calling you into the office to "address" your concerns. Total crap.

What I don't understand is why don't we as associates show Management who's really running the show in the store by all calling in sick one day and do it as a wave across the country. An organized "blue flu" for one day that sweeps across every store in every state.

If they don't have anyone to man the store, they will have zero sales for the day. The only way to get management to change is by effecting them in the pocket book. Money talks. It's that simple. as along as you have sick time, they can't do anything about someone calling in.

I call for a nationwide blue flu to demonstrate to them the power the associates have. There's no freaking way the managers can run a store. that would require them getting off their butts and coming out of the offices.
