CVX, as well as the industry in general, must and will shrink significantly. This is not a unique problem for CVX. All E&P companies will be going through significant downsizing during 2nd-half 2017 through 1st-half 2018. Everyone needs to lighten up on criticism of CVX and JW. CVX will be a survivor. Many companies will be gone either through mergers or bankruptcies.

There's already somewhat of a blue print. The idea is to go from 3 working areas to 1. The new work flows are currently be sorted out. Expect a 25-35% cut in total workforce. You will see more and more positions opening up in the Permian. The company is encouraging all employees to update their GO's as they may be forced to compete for future employment.
Too soon to tell how many people will be let go. It seems that it'll be significant though. Selections/notifications in q4 2017/q1 2018.
