Meaning NOV had no sales relationship with Noble Energy
The only relationship they had with Noble Drilling left when Noble split and the one guy they had went to Paragon and then left Paragon
The entire NOV sales group for cranes was a joke and the only one who actually knew cranes they cut loose and he went to the competition

When you say Noble, you mean Noble Drilling or Noble Energy? If Noble Drilling, then I call BS and you don't know what you are talking about.
Very sad that our plant had cut the cost of the cranes to where sales group said they needed to be and the sales group still could not make a sale

I remember when Covington was the jewel ov NOV. the beauty and grandury to match only Alice. Now the plant has fallen to the times and the greed of bad dicisions of near sighted individuals. Thank you for all the good memories. Fare thee well my love.
Covington was long overdue for being shut down. It probably should have been shut down before the industry crapped out...

I understand the bitterness and management can and likely is pretty bad, however your predicament has little to do with their performance. Just like most of the textile industry in the US your product is obsolete as made in the USA. It's too cheap to get Chinese or Mexico or Polish made product. There are barely above zero customers requiring cranes right now and those that are are not buying from you.
Cost center is normal for manufacturing locations and honestly that "cost center" contribution to larger products like rigs or packages is likely what kept you afloat as long as it did. Ask the pumps and drawworks folks as well. No one wants those from NOV or any other US manufacturer anymore and if it wasn't for an NOV rig or package they would have shut down 5 years ago.
This is not a defense of the NOV management. They are callous, provide little to no strategy and direction particularly on a larger scale beyond "do more with less" and "need to cut more". I understand and empathize with your struggles and pains. It's a shame, but it's a larger picture than management is bad, even if the latter is true.
Covington became a "cost center" and prices and sales strategies were not dictated by Covington. Those decisions came from above Covington. Covington tried to voice its opinion but upper management ignored and didn't value their opinion. Ask every single employee in Covington and you will hear the same story: "We have been telling upper management (for over 2 - 3 years) that those changes would not be a good idea and will hurt Covington in the long run". Time proved, those people in Covington were right. At the end of the day, smart dedicated people with kids/families are eithout a job while those responsible are still having a good day at NOV.
Blame it on Norway Sales strategy for the OC Style crane and Covingtons high costs to build a simple crane for a cheap market.
No degree needed to work for NOV management and maybe that is part of the problem. Education opens up awareness and without it is like telling a blind man that the sky is blue.
