Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

General Electric's catch-22 situation

All the top management are bean counters, for them, everything is resumed to a spreadsheet. They have no vision or clue about the product, all is resumed to reduce costs and increase profits, if taken to infinite proves impossible as your cost would be zero and the profit infinite.

They think they can sell horse manure, put the GE logo on it and the customer will buy it, this is everytime less and less the case.

This has turned into a catch-22 situation. Make cuts to increase profit, profit increases only temporarily until the true effects of the cuts manifest, decreasing profits. This prompts the GE management to work on increasing profits again by, shockingly, more cuts, which work short term until... You get the picture. Product is an afterthought.

This is how the appliances got to be so bad that employees wouldn't buy them, even with a heavy discount. Eventually the appliances business, stripped of quality, was sold off to Haier so they could put the meatball on their own line of junk appliances. The leaders never learned a thing from this, either.
