DWEP lost the battle with GOM. Steve has to retire. There will be a huge workforce reduction. My department will have a at least 40% cut. Some other departments will be much worse. With this oil price, who wants a deep water business unit?

The Towhall is just a prelude to the Functional group meetings at the end of the week. Everyone will see the New Organization and possible open positions.

I expect it will be similar to the usual "half truths" that are presented like "we will not be getting rid of our older experienced employees and have learned that lesson well". What management did turn Chevron into a lean top performer to enable the company to survive the storms. As SOC points out the highs and lows is just business and no anticipation or preparation was in place. Did we not have to ask ourselves "what could go wrong" and "what could prevent it from going wrong" but it seems like the business does not live up to the standards it sets. The biggest failure is ignoring our well publicised philosophy of "we do what we say we will do" so expect more of the same.

DWEP will not exist after September 30th. Staff reductions will continue to occur. The GOM will reorganize and someday rise from the ashes like the Phoenix. The future is to sustain the deepwater platforms until the price goes up. The plan is solid and as much as people want to blame the management, they have done a great job managing through the storm of lower prices. Give them credit for steering the ship. Some folks will lose jobs, but that's business.
