Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Is this normal?

This post is for those serious former or current employees, and definitely not for bashing others, I have been a SHC employee off and on for 15 years, my most recent stint ended about a week ago, and as much as the company is in turmoil and broken, I absolutely loved my job, my question is, is it normal to grieve the loss of my job in an organization that obviously saw no value in my contribution? I truly miss my Job, and as much as I am searching for the next best thing I am truly heartbroken that I am not waking up daily to do my part to improve the profit of SHC.

The corporation is all the associates...the store associates and the HE associates, etc. I highly doubt all the associates working for Sears Holdings are corrupt and greedy are they? And come on, I am sure this person worked with associates who were friends, so it is normal to be slightly upset when leaving even if you have had enough of the work.

Why grieve at all ? Instead, CELEBRATE ! You are rid of an uncaring, corrupt, greedy organization that is (finally) reaping its' reward of total destruction.

There is nothing out of the ordinary about working off and on for SHC. Personally I have been laid off two times from this company, transferred three times and quit and reapplied at a different location once. I have also worked at both sears and Kmart over that time. The first lay off I got 3 weeks of severance and then went back. Second time I was laid off I got 5 weeks of severance even though I had over 10 years of service. I didn't know it's a lifetime max of 8 weeks, so they subtracted 3 weeks that I used years ago from my severance. Found that in the tiny print. Now that I have used up my lifetime max of 8 weeks, if I were to go back full time and get laid off again I would get zero weeks of severance. What ever, I'm just happy I will not be returning this time!

oh don't be wrong sears has some of the best employees out there ... the company just don't know how to treat them ... it shows , like on here, not many care for the stores they work in mostly due to the store GM, it starts from the top yet they don't get it while they go outside to smoke their cigs then go back to their offices to hide from manager calls for help not to mention help with ringing a register.. if they are on here they know who they are.. not saying all are bad just the majority of them are

SHC is like a cult. They break you down and mentally abuse you until you have no where else to turn. They make it seem like the reason that they are not successful is that you are not doing enough to make it so ( or in the case of some religions, you do not have enough faith)

You think that the company is doing the best they can for your well being when in reality they are only enriching themselves. They separate you from friends and family with long hours or short hours with too much resposibility with little to no compensation. You then need to rely on them for everything you have. While everyone around you is nice and pleasant to be with they are just as brain washed as you are to the reality of failure and manipulation that is all around.

I don't think the company didn't see value in your contribution. I think they just needed to get the number of associates to a certain level or still need to. I am sure you were valued. And it's normal to feel loss. You worked with a lot of people here. And the people are still good regardless of the "crazy" that has been the company for the last couple of years.

I don't know if it's normal but it's common. You invested yourself in the company so feeling a loss makes sense to me. Your feeling transcends the current Sears implosion. You'd feel this way if the company weren't in turmoil. It's just a bad time to get sentimental because it may make you feel a shade embarrassed.
