Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sears might survive, unlike its employees

Amazon means a much broader net of potential customers, especially young customers who would normally never touch a Sears store, online or brick and mortar. This translates to more money being made for Sears. It also means more stores closing, which means more money for Sears. All in all, Sears may survive. As for Sears employees, especially at the stores, update your resume, look elsewhere. You do not have a future with Sears. Put all that fear and worrying into action: find another job.

This is my thinking as well... The more Sears turns to online shopping, more brick and mortar stores will bite the dust... We'll see, but this might be just another nail in the coffin for us.

So part of the transformation was always claimed to be competitive with Amazon. Selling Sears product on Amazon is admitting defeat in that venue. If you really think that it is good for Sears to use Amazon you might want to ask a former Borders employee how that worked out for them.

Literally anyone can become a third-party seller on Amazon. Why is this a big deal?

There's no deal. Sears is an Amazon Marketplace seller, just another fish in a giant sea. Amazon is building their own same-day delivery network. No reason to buy Sears. If Amazon wants private label appliances they'll do it with their brand--just like they have with numerous other products (though I doubt we'll see Amazon Fire dryers LOL.)

There has to be more to come. Makes no sense for Amazon to just sell Kenmore appliances. Watch for Amazon to buy all or part of Sears. They need distribution points for same day delivery.

You guys forget our great SYWR program. That is the key to the turnaround. We will soon be the only portal paying points to customers who shop at Amazon. We will get paid for people to click thru shop your way (by amazon) and in return we will share a portion of our income with our valued SYWR members in the form of points.

This is the same way Google and all the other big search engines make money.

This alone should generate approximately $2.9 Billion in free cash flow of which only about 600M will be returned to our valued members who can then use those rewards at our great, remodeled Sears and Kmart location.

Eddie Lampert is a genius. Take every penny you've got and put it in SHLD the sky's the limit!!!

Remember "We're fighting like hell to change the way people do business with us..." and now we are winning. Our transformation plan is working. Remodels will begin soon and our strategic partnership with Stanley Black And Decker is about to fill our shelves for the holiday season with the new Dewalt Flexvolt line (anticipated to convert to a sears exclusive) our new and improved Craftsman Innovation Line (Sideways tape measure anyone? How about a curved claw hammer with a flexible claw?????) and our new, everyday value, black and decker/evolv line. That's right, Evolv is getting a makeover and do they every look good in orange and black. Oh, and did I mention they are EXCLUSIVE!!!

Tell that guy in the other post to bring his mop bucket, this is going to be better than any show you've ever seen. The greatest comeback since Clinton. Eddie Lampert & Sears, The New Comeback Kids!!!!!

So add the Alexa conversion cost to the product now introduce free two day shipping by another Sears co give amazon there cut. Now take away incidental purches from being in the store. So how is this a good deal for Sears

You are absolutely correct, noting is ever promised or guaranteed! I remember a few years ago the company closed a Kmart store without any notice. The location closed as usual the night before and employees came to work the next day to a sign saying the location was closed indefinitely. Layaways had to be transferred to the nearest store and inventory was shipped off. Bed bath and beyond wanted the location immediately and they got it. Any of us could go to work tomorrow and find a closed sign!

Perhaps. What I can't get over is how anyone thinks anything is guaranteed anywhere. Every day any of us goes to work, unless we have our own company, we don't know the outcome. Now if you are miserable at work, yes find something else to do as that isn't healthy. But if you are okay with your job, just show up and work.

I still see Sears going bankrupt and being forced to convert into Chapter 7. If these moves were made a year or two ago, there would be a better chance of Sears surviving but at this point it seems too late.

Selling Kenmore on Amazon will not add $1.5 billion of cash flow, or generate $2.2 billion in net profit per year. If I could predict anything Kenmore is being leveraged by this deal so Sears can sell it for a higher price.

Agreed. There are 2 separate things here:

  1. Will Sears survive?

  2. Will its employees survive?

Answers:

  1. Yes

  2. Most will not. For Sears to survive, most of its employees will need to be let go.

For 1 to be Yes, 2 has to be mostly No.

Small footprint appliance stores? You mean like Montgomery Ward's Electric Avenue, Rex, Fretter, Silo, Sun, HH Gregg and Circuit City?

Online only? Maybe, but why would a customer choose Sears over any other online provider? I still don't see a compelling reason for Sears/Kmart to exist. What differentiates them from others?

Completely agree , this is the end of Sears as we know it, there will be more appliance stores with a smaller footprint. The mall based stores are done, this amazon thing proves it. Eddie will sell the propertys that the remaining stores set on to pay himself back with interest for the loans. Unless your sell appliances you better have a plan. I see us going thru christmas as our own interal liquidators to dump the rest of our inventory , then close the doors on the big box stores
