Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Reorg in August in Mid-range Storage Group

It is all finalized. a major reorg in August and subsequent layoff is planned in September in Mid-range entry level Storage group. Major sites affected will be NDC and MDC. Lot of jobs to move to low cost China and EMC Bangalore. HR head had discussion with Bangalore and China on the rampup plan. Talent acquisition teams have been given heads up in these two sites. All these will happen before the October pay hike appraisal cycle.

Believe it or not. Technologists at Bangalore Dell Storage team are working hard these days. They are coming to office. As if they are trying to prove earlier posts wrong. Lol.

All slides and no code is an apt description of these so called techies. They're times that I interacted with them on technical issues and found them lacking in basic storage knowledge. In my whole experience I have never seen such incompetent people in high positions. They have a few favorites who are equally useless. These two are powerful because they decide on appraisal and pay hikes of all our engineers and the director is an idiot who knows nothing and spends time in photography.

BDC storage so called technologists come to office once in a week to catch up on the gossip. Other times they are busy working from home. The engineers are exasperated by their high handedness.

This sounds like all fun and no accountability. Only slides and no code.

The ancient Romans had a tradition: whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in the most profound way possible: he stood under the arch. (Quote by - Michael Armstrong)

There are only patterns, patterns on top of patterns, patterns that affect other patterns. Patterns hidden by patterns. Patterns within patterns. If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself.

Will history repeat for the dell storage team at bangalore?

Dell was never a leader in Storage and this team was formed and constituted of people who were discards and underperformers from storage companies like Netapp and EMC. It needs to be seen how long this group will survive the merger.

Will team be spared this time or like in the past sacrificed with the world class leadership team and senior techies. Let's hope Dell will have enough courage to spare the team and target the leadership malaise.

Dell is too slow. Most of us in NDC, MDC, Hopkinton can't believe why we even have jobs. All hands meetings doesn't provide us work or road map. Some in projects envy other employees who does nothing. Sites can't be imbalanced, few work and most others enjoy.

Ya, Cyclone is a joke. Why do we need three sites and thousand plus employees working on a low end array. Cyclone is designed and destined to fail. My 2 cents.

Storage is not dead yet. There is still some more juice to be extracted before it can be pulped. Folks in Hopkinton know about it. Ask the storage CTO in Hopkinton and he will tell you about self governing storage artificial intelligence IOT and blah blah. Apparently he claims to have sold these ideas to the supreme leader Michael Dell. So lot of jazzy things coming out from EMC stable.

This thread is reliable as my manager also hinted the same. Let me tell you that my manager is a man of few words and well networked all the way to the top. There is gonna be an organizational change with legacy Dell storage under single leadership. Some of the products are going to go into sustenance. Cyclone is main product in development. If you don't fit into Cyclone project as many folks wouldn't your gonna get fired.

SC series is still selling and roadmap is enhanced with good features. The planning for next version of SCOS is in full swing . There will be folks in MDC working on this next two years. They plan to have extended teams in EMC Bangalore to reduce cost and help development. There are folks who don't fit into this roadmap have been asked to work with Hopkinton on Cyclone. They are the clueless lost tribes and target for layoffs.

ADC has MD Tape which is a small team and cash cow for MRES. ADC has already been through layoffs and key folks have moved into server and other groups. Austin has nothing more to lose.
