Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

The "next" wave

Commissions and bonuses for the end of the 2016 fiscal year were paid out recently to most groups and, as a result, there is now a wave of voluntary departures hitting Oracle. Employees are seeing the future -- in terms of how Oracle continues to struggle but how it is pushing work to India or college grads. Every story I've heard so far tells of getting raises and feeling free to be leaving the toxic elements of Oracle behind.

However, there are also stories inside of Oracle that it was designed this way. Employees were stack ranked and evaluated for their propensity to leave. Those who were deemed either unneeded or lower performing and unlikely to leave were part of the layoff in June. Those who were seen as being willing to leave on their own were left to do so thereby avoiding expensive severance packages. Of course, the flaw in that whole logic is that the best employees could very well leave as well (and some of them recently have).

While not part of a true layoff, the numbers of individuals departing Oracle has been growing recently.

You can only pimp things up/ cover up a pig with lipstick for so long. It's all coming crashing down as oracle has pumped up cloud revenues and lacks the ability to deploy cloud. Run for the hills while you can. Well, looks like lots of people are doing just that. Good for you !

In EMEA many customers been forced to buy "Oracle Public Cloud Services", EXADATACM", "IaaS" and "cloud DB" but no real implementation !!

Just technology sales getting high commissions , customers that are even not aware what been included in the ULA (or ULA2cloud).

There is no real production and customer references and renewals are limited and almost zero.

Just a false representation of an "successful" cloud business.

I've never seen such attrition in Oracle sales as I've seen this month. Even the supposedly safe Cloud sales and Enterprise Cloud Architect jobs are seeing people leave voluntarily in droves, including the highest paid "Master Principal" and "Distinguished" titles. Bonuses and commissions are down 60% from last year despite the company's claim of glowing revenue. This along with the layoffs have led

sales reps to stop visiting customers as they have little or no technical help. Some sales forecast calls are being canceled as there is nothing to forecast. Sales sold the farm in Q4 (Mar-May), and now the cupboard is bare. ECA managers are spending almost all of their time on interviewing and hiring but are struggling to find qualified cloud architects who are willing to work for Oracle. Nobody is being hired from AWS, Microsoft, Salesforce, or Google except for the very highly paid Gen 2 / Bare Metal Cloud R&D jobs in Seattle. Customers who bought Oracle cloud products in May are reporting major problems with simply getting the services they bought provisioned. Oracle Cloud still has only two data centers in the US (Elk Grove / Ashburn for Gen 1 and Phoenix / Ashburn for Gen 2), and customers can clearly see that Oracle is way underinvested in cloud infrastructure. Gartner Group warns customers to talk to references before buying Oracle cloud, but sales reps can find very few successful references even for the flagship Exadata cloud service. The cloud product offerings are a mess, with Gen 1, Gen 2, and dedicated compute services, each with their own limitations. Ask an Oracle sales rep which services are HIPAA or FEDRAMP compliant- good luck and with that, as the security compliance groups are different for

Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Housing for your surfs is the new trend .

https://www.google.com/amp/www.cnbc.com/amp/2017/06/14/google-spending-30-million-on-housing-for-silicon-valley-employees.html

Plus real estate ownership is never a bad play for any company ... never mind individuals . Architects and developers of the "new urbanist" type will preach to you that these kids don't wanna own a home... but not sure if any of them have been asked exactly this question.

Either way the Austin campus for oracle is just a real estate investment . The definition of what is luxury remains elusive .

From Business Insider's entry on Hurd, #15 on their most influential enterprise execs list:

"Internally, Hurd is leading a pet project to hire young grads and train them up to be great cloud salespeople and take on other roles within the company. That includes Oracle's expansion into the Austin area, a campus that also includes luxury housing for employees."

Let us take that apart and examine. If this guy is as influential as they say, this strategy will spread to other organizations and companies. Whether it works or not, because it saves dollars. Just like the outsourcing scam.

Here you go...

Today's latest post I found on the layoff !!!!!

Rumor has it next round is after Q1 FY 2018

Just got my severance package but keep in touch with some friends in senior management. I could have stayed but elected to hop ship and take the cash. I am now employed at a competitor for more than I was making at Oracle, thanks to the cuts in OT, Bonus based on cloud and removal of the car allowance.

The rumor is the next round is targeted for the continuation of the RIF for seasoned sales and support. By "seasoned" I don't just mean "expensive or experienced" I mean over 40. This is the first of the new "Quarterly reductions" scheduled for FY18 to get rid of the old farts. Instead of one massive cut this summer, MH pulled back when his plans were made public and he was questioned on CNBC... now its broken down into a series of smaller layoffs to fly under the radar.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/04/oracle-ceo-mark-hurd-interview-att-deal-no-layoffs.html

If you are over 40 in sales or support (Especially in hardware) and there is even the slightest miss in the sales quota, the slaughter begins at the end of Q1 FY18. Rumor has it it will be about 4k in employees until they hit about 16k total, or cuts every fiscal QTR (inculidng this summer) until they hit about a 20k RIOF. Again its a RIOF not a RIF.

We are all familiar with the "RIF" known as a "Reduction in Force." This is a "RIOF" a "Reduction in Old Farts." A RIOF is where the higher paid knowledgeable workers (who a perceived to know nothing about cloud) are replaced with young easily malleable workers who have door to door sales experience selling magazine subscriptions for a trip to Europe while in college. The college kid is happy making less than half what you do and doesn't complain that the bonus s---s, that he has no overtime hours and no car allowance.

Seriously though, its happening. Expect about 4,000 workers to be given severance packages at the end of Q1. Trust me its a good thing for those who get laid off. They will be better off. The rest of you will face the impossible task of closing cloud with a bunch of college kids that know nothing about Oracle technology.

Also apparently (this is totally a rumor) if you are over 40 and a woman in a sales role or sales support role, MH hates you. You are so gone. Number one on MH's hate list is women over 40. My friend who is a licensed psychologist says its payback for what Hurd experienced with ms. Fisher. She is an attractive (now 57 year old) woman who cost ORACLE's co-CEO his last job. His "spread sheet analysis" that dictates who gets what quota and who gets let go targets non minority women over 40.

My advice, don't leave voluntarily. The way Mark Hurd plays this game is not cool, just milk the system and get a free severance package.
