Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Transformation cutting jewelry, apparel, footwear, and electronics

We were one of the first Sears stores to go through the transformation. We are now a smaller footprint because jewelry, apparel, footwear, and electronics were eliminated. The company continues the transformation process and as they convert more stores to the transformation model they continue to either completely eliminate or severly downsize jewelry, apparel, footwear, and electronics. If any of these employees in these departments remain they are made hardlines commissioned salespeople or cashiers with no lead positions.

Thank you for the info, @Oo0jOwE-tyf. This is what I was afraid of, as our store is about to go through similar transformation. I knew they'd be cutting and reducing stuff, but not this much. Anyhow, good to know.

I can see the transformation going if the company is still in business no footwear lead, just one softlines mca lead thats it. I honestly don't think they will cut footwear if they do I think they are just going to reduce the hours until its cut same with soft lines going by a bare minimum.

@3fys Did they get rid of the merchandise itself or did they get rid of the actual workers, but left the merchandise for soft lines to basically take over?

When they did our sears store transformation they said they were reducing softlines and apparel. They would keep a smaller selection of apparel on a limited basis in select stores. They would do the same thing with footwear. They would eliminate Jewelry also. We were told Sears eventually wanted to do away with all softlines and footwear and focus on appliances, mattresses, hardware, and lawn and garden. They also would eliminate all softline ASM and Lead positions and have a limited number of part time cashier/mca's. They subsequently did this in our Sears store and kept a smaller selection of apparel and eliminated footwear and jewelry.

I woudln't be surprised either on the reduced softlines footprint. no one wants to pay 40 dollars for an outfit for a three year old

Wouldn't be surprised if the reduced softlines footprint. We don't sell the clothes that kids, teenagers, or young adults like. Some of it is not to bad but, it's overpriced which is another problem, no one wants to spend $40 for a shirt when they can go somewhere else in the mall and get two or three for that price.

Most sears and kmarts are getting out of the clothing and footware business. Just like Kmart got out of the electronic business a few years ago. Most Sears stores will eventually sell mattresses and appliances and a few tools. No more jewlery, no more footware, no more clothing (or very little). Any leads and commissioned sales people in most departments will be eliminated or go to hourly.

@2jlk I am shocked your position hasn't been eliminated. In my store they eliminated our footwear lead kind of sad. Now my department has gotten bad and its getting bad little by little. If this transformation happens its going to be the saddest thing ever...

Some transformation stores kept softlines, although it was highly focused and not as expansive. Also jewelry is mostly eliminated In transformation stores
