Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

People are leaving in droves

I've never seen such attrition in Oracle sales as I've seen this month. Even the supposedly safe Cloud sales and Enterprise Cloud Architect jobs are seeing people leave voluntarily in droves, including the highest paid "Master Principal" and "Distinguished" titles. Bonuses and commissions are down 60% from last year despite the company's claim of glowing revenue. This along with the layoffs have led

sales reps to stop visiting customers as they have little or no technical help. Some sales forecast calls are being canceled as there is nothing to forecast. Sales sold the farm in Q4 (Mar-May), and now the cupboard is bare. ECA managers are spending almost all of their time on interviewing and hiring but are struggling to find qualified cloud architects who are willing to work for Oracle. Nobody is being hired from AWS, Microsoft, Salesforce, or Google except for the very highly paid Gen 2 / Bare Metal Cloud R&D jobs in Seattle. Customers who bought Oracle cloud products in May are reporting major problems with simply getting the services they bought provisioned. Oracle Cloud still has only two data centers in the US (Elk Grove / Ashburn for Gen 1 and Phoenix / Ashburn for Gen 2), and customers can clearly see that Oracle is way underinvested in cloud infrastructure. Gartner Group warns customers to talk to references before buying Oracle cloud, but sales reps can find very few successful references even for the flagship Exadata cloud service. The cloud product offerings are a mess, with Gen 1, Gen 2, and dedicated compute services, each with their own limitations. Ask an Oracle sales rep which services are HIPAA or FEDRAMP compliant- good luck and with that, as the security compliance groups are different for

Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Good read. Yes the writing is on the wall. The future is nothing but more layoffs and pay cuts. Who wants to stay for that. Just draw a paycheck while you interview. Do the minimum. Make the layoff spreadsheet and collect a severance package on the way out. Its a win/win if you start interviewing now.

They all got scared due to the mass layoff rumors on this site, went to interviews and offers are now coming in. This was MH's plan all along, scare them out. With so few data centers Oracle doesn't have to sped on cloud sales and support for years to come, brilliant. The technology Larry put TK to build is so revolutionary that it will sell, implement and support itself, all you need in the future is a self check-out system and highly unmotivated RFIDed employees to easily track pee time and build spreadsheets on it. What we need urgently are some more all-hands sessions, that was motivational to watch.

Its all according to MH's plan. Everyone that leaves voluntarily saves a severance package between 10 to 30k depending on the years of service and salary. Best of luck to everyone. MH plans on replacing the entire sales force with OD, so this is exactly what he wants.

After everyone leaves and the company craters, then MH gets to retire. Probably forced as he has in single handed fashion run all the good people off, and replaced them with people who can do little more than fill out an order form an execute a contract.

Sadly you need someone to tell a customer "why" they should sign a contract and those are the people he got rid of.

It will be very difficult for existing sales reps to find legitimate references because most don't exist. Many of the Oracle cloud customers only purchased a cloud product to get a steep discount on their On Premise contracts. Therefore, those cloud subscriptions have never been implemented and have been internally identified as "DOA-Finacially Engineered" little piggies. The ones that start implementation run into a buzz saw of problems because most of the cloud products are garbage. Oracle should go retro and introduce a line of typewriters and thermal fax machines. I am sure they can find the resources to support this product line.

Can only put lipstick on a pig for so long. This is the beginning of the end.
