Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Sad reality

As I ate dinner at Lowe's tonight one of the lumber associates was in the break room, out of sight of the door, leaning against the wall making travel reservations for his upcoming vacation. Our ASM for the evening spent his time in the office, didn't see him until he let us out after the store closed. Our service manager spent the evening in OSLG, their former department. They have the store manager convinced that OSLG is going to earn SSEI for the store.

The kid in appliances, who used to work at HH Gregg, spent the evening chatting up his girlfriend a cashier. The flooring associate was working with customers in home decor because the home decor associate recently left for another (better) job. There was no one in millwork, electrical, or ISLG. Plumbing associate covered both plumbing and ISLG. Paint associate covered both paint and electrical (he used to work in electrical).

Head cashier covered return desk for a dinner break and called over customers when a code 3 happened. Paint associate helped as well, he is one of the few floor associates that knows the 1.4 register functions. There was one cashier per area and a head cashier. OSLG cashier worked 11 to 8 and was the only cashier out there today. She went home at 8.

After the store closed we all helped put out the sales signage and tidied up the best we could with the time that remained. This is a typical day at my store.

Every store is like this and they used to have people that could do it. Now Lowe's ran those people out. Those are the former Department Managers and Tenure employees.. Since all these changes my store lost so much knowledge. People who were dependable and reliable are not there. Filled with newbies who don't care or part timers who don't show. Most of whom when are there look at you like a deer in headlights when you ask them anything. Lowe's turned it's back on experience. So as a long time employee I turned my back many years ago. It's fun collecting a pay check. I hate going to work.

Streamlining, slimming down to get the stock price up and also looking to the future and also a takeover partner? Not sure what is going to happen tomorrow because they have an asm in the pipeline and just hired another service manager.

I can't comment on layoffs, but as a customer I can say that whenever I go into Lowe's now it feels more and more like a… Sears. Whole departments are devoid of personnel (except for appliances, of course, which always feels like entering a used car lot.) The decor and displays are tired, and returned products are put back on the shelves in torn packaging just stapled or taped back together.

Choosing Lowe's over Home Depot used to feel a bit higher end, like you might pay a bit more but it was a fancier shopping experience than the orange warehouse feel.

Now it just feels like walking into a Sears or K-Mart, where you can buy things, but really, no one cares if you do or not.

That's typical. There's usually only 3 or so associates covering the sales floor along with a service manager or an asm. department staffing is so messed up.

This is typical in every store. Corporate doesn't care so why should employees??
