Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Corporate Layoffs Thurs 7/27

HR across the corporate have been asked to support an "event" on Thursday. Apparently Doug still needs associate salaries to pay Marc Lore.

There are a bunch of idiots running the company now. They may be rich but they are still idiots. The good leaders are long gone. I have never seen a company that is so afraid another company might make a dime or two. They need to go back to the basics and take care of what they have already built. I have been in several stores that had empty shelves and was dirty but they are always wanting to try something new and forget what got them there. They need to clean house but they should start at the CEO level at the home office and work down, not from the down up

If they are looking to purge, they SHOULD look at the director level and above. Upper leadership in this company exists in fantasyland, expecting miracles from those of us on the front lines but without any appreciation for the fact that quality output requires RESOURCES: time, money, technology and talent. They're not interested in investing in these resources, and no one has the stones to tell them how pie in the sky their expectations really are (understandable, unless you want to be the target of retaliation). The end result is that everyone at the senior manager level and below is literally being set up to fail. And when they do, will leadership look in the mirror and ask what they've done to contribute, with their constantly shifting priorities and unrealistic demands? Of course not. It's a lose-lose situation for the associates, and it's incredibly frustrating for those who want to do good work (which I dare say is most of us).

This is not a sustainable situation, folks. They cannot continue to operate this company outside of reality and not expect that there won't be a day of reckoning. It's coming, sooner or later.

Walmart does not care one bit about anybody that works for them. Those days are long gone. I was there 20 years and got it in January. What I thought was the nail in the coffin was when they laid off 1000 of us and then gave Doug MCasshole a 19% raise. Maybe he needs another one.

SUpportan an event notice is only vague if you have not been here since 2009. Nothing bague about it. It means you are being laid off.

Directors and above from just replenishment or entire HO?

Hopefully Directors and above from various areas. There are some 20+ year associates who are Directors and above that have no business still being employed there. In my department we have a couple that cost the company hundreds of millions of dollars every few years through sheer stupidity, but they always somehow manage to cover it up. We tried to let HR know what was going on, but no one seemed to care. Maybe someone has figured it out and they will be gone soon.

Is it specific levels of replenishment? Directors and above? Or just the regular managers. What departments?

I heard if you get a meeting planner with the subject "company reorg" or something on these terms don't waste your time in coming into the office.

Walmart has been laying off since February 2009 when they laid off 800 at HO. They've been ramping up the cuts in more recent times since the layoff in October 2015, where they cut 450. Since then it has been pretty steady laying off, with several large groups let go at a time in 2017.

They've cut stores and clubs in the past too. For those who don't believe it, Google the cuts over the years.

Be ready, have a plan, and by all means don't drink the kool-aid.

Pull your head out of your a--! Add it up...travel plans cancelled, vendor rooms booked, HR supporting and "event" and 7 months of layoffs across the organization...I think that spells LAYOFF. Bury your head in the sand. Believe leadership when they lie. Whatever you do get ready for it to happen to you because it very well could.

this seems really vague. How does supporting an event = layoffs?
