The previous post is absolutely correct... Competitive landscape is much tougher now versus anytime in Intel's history. A perfect storm has arisen. Intel is at its weakest and the external forces are taking Intel apart... Truly sad to see the best company in American history ruined by a completely inept Board of "Directors" and mainly by the truly incompetent CEO Brian Krzanich.

They are so late with 10nm. Totally phucked no matter what.
Who cares intel 10nm is more like TSMC, GF, or Samsung 7nm. Fact of the matter LTD totally screwed all of intel with their deception!

TMG, FSM, ATD, LTD, the core of the intel all come cut from the same poisoned group of people that created, lied about the current mess!
Who can clean it up? Keep the people and their poisoned ways and lying spin and think they can fix it? Does a zebra change its stripes?
Replace them with who, the whole management team down to the Gr10 are all walking zombies rewarded by the top management for the behavior that caused this mess.
No smart outsider would sign up to fix this trainwreck. You'd have to fire the whole chain of command and outsider know who the hiding real good people are, good luck with that. Maybe some stupid oils money will pick it up like AMD fab? Nope only hope is the Chinese bail out of TMG and hat won't happen either.
Tipping pooint has been past and Intel going the way of Kodak, Blackberry and Nokia! Intel needs to dump TMG and find a way to do their manufacturing at TSMC and Samsung

@shk - I was born and raised in a totalitarian, dystophic system in the eastern europe. I have a dejavu since I work at Intel. Leaders reigning by fear, propaganda, hypocrisy, dog eats dog, same types of people making career, same failure patterns. It is the perfect hunger game.
@shk - I was educated every time around focal review. This year was the worst as I was blamed by 3 other directors (grad11+) in front of my vp. My director threw me under the bus and did not defend me so I left intel.
I know what I was talking about and yes, I have a phd degree from a tier 1 school.
@shk - this person understands that not reaching the Xnm is the challenge. The real chalenge is changing the rotten culture of obedience inside intel.
When EUV wasn't ready for 10nm, they were hosed. Too many process steps, needs perfect registration and dead center parameters elsewhere, no 450mm to offset cost, what a nightmare.
As long as Intel management continues to brag about their technology lead, it will be true. Perception becomes reality.

Funny that some still don't understand there are more factors than gate length that affect performance. Tsmc's transistor is far ahead of intel's in terms of variation, Ion/off ratio, speed and leakage power. I'm sorry for those who only talk about gate pitch but not those metrics users truelly care about. Don't repeat what mark Bohr says; have your own technical judgment.

I remember someone at Intel claimed Intel already launched 4nm technology 20 years ago, 386 is manufactured based on Intel 4nm technology. Intel rock
@vbm - marketing or not, Intel's advantage is gone. TSMC is at least on par, and it probably have their 7 nm ready before Intel will have their 10nm.
Funny how people don't realize that "10 nm" and "7 nm" are marketing names. Check the real node size for the processes. Intel's 10 nm is in fact 9.5 nm, GF 7 nm is in fact 9.2 nm, so they're pretty much equal.
The problem is that Ashraf still hasn't understood the very basics of chip technology, and he still doesn't understand what the issue with 10nm is. All he sees is that other companies have some "7nm" process, and he naively thinks "Oh, they are ahead of Intel!" He's a complete dumb--s.
Ashraf is really starting to take the gloves off. Good for him!
